I think it's all fine and good that 28% of the money that goes into the lottery goes to charity and good causes, but you would be better off giving your money direct to charity and you'd get tax relief on it as well and not pay tax money to the government like you do now.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Play irregularly as an impulse buy (never scratchcards). Probably works out at approx £1 per week.
Reckon i am slightly above the odds winning on average a tenner twice a year. I know had i simply put that £1 in a pot i would have £52 a year down the line not £20 playing the lottery. It is a tax on the stupid but your playing for the dream of the big one even though you know you should be more scared lightning than hoping for the lottery win.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0 -

The whole "more chance of being hit by lightning" argument is statistically incorrect. People base it on the odds of being hit by lightning in a year versus the odds of winning the lottery for a single draw. If you actually take into account the odds of winning the lottery over the course of a year were one to play at least one National Lottery draw per week then the odds of winning the lottery become statistically higher than being hit by lightning over the same period of time.0 -

I put a couple of lines on the Euromillions if it's a big jackpot, and the odd quid on the Saturday draw. Have had a scratchcard or two over the years, but can't remember the last time I got one."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

£28 week on lotto, £8 week Euromillions, £4 week syndicate, & probably about a tenner a week on scratch cards. biggest win £200 on a "Monopoly" scratchcard. But I'm an optimistic sort & I can dream of buying my £10m yacht!0

I used to do the lottery when it started, and a few scratchcards at the same time. This gave me a little dream of being lucky and being rich enough to retire. Of course, this was at a time when I had to watch what I spent, and paying the bills was a bit of a struggle at times. Now, I could retire tomorrow and still get by, (I'm 58), and my mortgage has about £182 left to pay, but I have enough to pay my bills, and a bit left over, so I don't need the dream of winning a fortune. I don't do the lottery or cards at all, but I still feel that I am very lucky to be in my situation.0

See when I see that, I think right thats £1040 a year. So that would pay for me to go to Hawaii every year. So Id rather have a guaranteed holiday than a miniscule chance of winning something. Each to their own I guess.0
