  • when i worked at a supermarket certain people would spend fortunes on lottery and scratch cards, the same couple would come back to the shop 5 or 6 times a day for more cards.

i think my dad spends about £20 - £25 a week on the lottery, I havent got that kind of money to blow... but its his cash he can do what he likes with it, he gave up going out so doesnt drink anymore, and doesnt smoke half as much as he used too, if he wants to spend the savings hes making on a bit of hope... why stop him

Not a red cent ever on either. Why would I buy a lottery ticket when I've got a better chance of being killed by the satellite that's about to crash to earth than I have of winning a tenner.

The odds on being killed by a satellite are less than 50-1? Scary!!!

I'll sometimes buy a couple of scratchcards if I'm feeling flush :p

Disappointing to see so many condescending posts against those who do buy them though.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

We probably spend about £15 a month on lottery and scratch cards. I know the above posters have called it stupid tax, more likely to be struck by lightening, but you have got to be in it to win it! But at the end of the day, we all work in this house, so we can spend our money how we like. However if we did win big time, I would never work another day in my life! I would be too busy shopping and holidaying.Ahh you have to dream don't you? I think that is all it is for most people, a dream..
The opposite of what you know...is also true

I brought one scratch card this week, wouldn't normally, don't know what made me do it!! didn't win anything.
    Slightly bitter
  • I buy 1 ticket for every Saturday draw, so £1 a week. Iv'e never bought a scratchcard!
  • £8.00 per month online on the lottery, 2 tickets every saturday. Wins so far? 2 x £10.00, 1 x 64.00. Must be about time for a big one then :-) The frustrating thing is, if you have won anything you get an email saying 'national lottery has some good news for you, please sign in' so you don't know if it's a tenner or big money until you've managed to remember your user name and password.......then you find out it's a tenner! All good fun!

I pay a pound a week by online subscription (it's convenient - I get weekly email with results, reminders to top up my balance every 8 weeks or so.) I never check the results because they contact me when I win anything. I've never bought a scratchcard.

So that's £52 pounds a year. The price of tank of petrol or a nice dinner out. I spend far more on raffle tickets, tombolas and games of chance but then they're for the benefit of my community or my favourite charities.

£20.00 a week , 3 lines both euro million draws and 3 lines on the normal lotto wed and sat and 2 scratch cards with the change,

I know for a fact I spent at least 1000 time more than I have ever won, But if I didnt buy them it would go on beer instead.

£2 a week on the National Lottery. One line and then that plus five thing.

and £2 a week into the office EuroMillions syndicate. I'm damned if I'm going to be the only mug to have to turn up for work after they've scooped the jackpot!!

    Nothing on scratchcards.

Scratchcards? Not on your nelly. Made for people without any money sense and from what I normally see, that means those without much money.

Lottery, now and again I'll have a pound, maybe 5 times a year at most. Makes an exciting couple of minutes while I check the numbers :D always disappointed though. lol
