My eldest was ten, but she's very skinny, not very active and always cold. My younger daughter was about 6 but she is a very warm blooded.
I'd say, going by the answers you've got here, your friends are in the minority, not you.0 -
As for it being a fashion faux pas ... I don't have girls, but I imagine that it's more a case of some girls don't wear them than it actually being something to 'avoid'.
Plenty of people have said here that their kids wear vests or did at age 4, but if yours has just started reception she might be noticing differences - my son's best friend is a girl and she is much more observant than my boys ever wereShe could tell you what people have in their lunchboxes, what type of school bag they have etc. and what sort of shoes they wear.
You could ask the teacher perhaps? See if other girls that age wear vests, and if your daughter has heard a comment by another girl about vests being strange, maybe the teacher could say something positive about how cosy vests are now that the weather's getting colder, just in passing.
I think that was my worry, my DD is far from daft, and notices and questions everything, good idea about discussing it though. I suppose I just worry that maybe I am too old fashioned with her (i decide her clothes, dont paint her nails etc). I am tyring to keep her a little girl as long as possible.
God help me when she is a teenager, I think I will crack up, im questioning things now, wait while she wants to wear skirts up her bum!0 -
At 4 I don't think that's old fashioned.
I was at a party for a girl in reception over the summer (she was just turning 5) and she had a manicure table set up in the hall as part of the party. Some of her guests arrived at the party with nail polish on, others had theirs done at the party but a fair few of the parents were surprised, and only allowed it because it was a birthday party. It led to a discussion about what age they would let their daughters get their ears pierced, have you thought about that yet?
But yes, mixed opinions about the nail polish, probably half and half?52% tight0 -
Oh lord, ear piercing as well?! I think I need a sit down!
I was a baby when my mum did mine. Going to wait until DD is at least 10 I think (although I can only imagine the pestering I will get if she wants it before!). I want her to be old enough to understand the consequences of her actions.0 -
My eldest is 7 and still wearing vests. As long as there are shops selling them then he will be wearing them. Not wearing them isnt an option in Scotland! My opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked, and it's price competitive. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.0

Does anyone remember underskirts? My mum always made me wear them when I was little.
Nail polish I dont mind at all but one thing I hate is seeing children who are too young to make decisions for theirselves with their ears pierced!

I remember mum dressing me in a skirt that was attached to a vest type thing. An all in one skirt if you like. At least it didn't fall down!0

Me too! (I remember having to wear a vest over my first bra!) But who else remembers wearing Liberty Bodices in the winter ?????
