Just rang hospital for my urine and swab results and have been told I have group b strep. I am really upset and stuff online seems so scary:(:(:(

I read a bit about it when my hospital did my test, but wouldnt like to have spouted my version of the technicalities at you! Found this Group B strep support group, which has some good info, might be worth a read in the interim before you speak to someone..

Gilly - great advice about drinking later in the night. I also try to take in most of my fluids earlier in the day, and at almost 32 weeks, I'm still only getting up to go to the loo once per night (about 4am/5am). I expect it might get more frequent, but I've been quite pleased with that so far.....

bumpmakesfour - I'm having to take gaviscon quite regularly now and I just simply can't eat dinner late, or I just can't sleep.

jediquigley & hiphouse - welcome! As Kira also suggested hiphouse, I thought that the book "what to expect when you're expecting" was very good. I got it free from a friend who's had her baby. Maybe ask friends who've had babies if they have any books or magazines lying around :)

Rebekah - sorry you're still not feeling well. You might find that you'll start to feel better before 12 weeks as everyone is different. That said, you might find it take a bit longer for you to get your energy back. Try to rest as much as you can as it really will help and drink lots of water too. :)
I can't believe that you don't get a 12 week scan! I had a private one at 8 weeks just for re-assurance that baby was in the right place etc so we could relax as I thought 12 weeks was soooo long to wait. Are you sure that the hospital doesn't do 12 week ones. I'd ring them and double check and maybe look at private ones. Our 8 week scan was less than £100 and worth the money to us.......

  • Hi all, how you doing?

39 weeks today here - still going good, haven't had enough yet! My hormonal hissyfit seems to be well and truly over and have felt positively grand for the last couple of days. Yesterday was really productive and today so far has been lovely too - met up with my NCT girls for cake this morning and then went for a preggo spa session (scrub, massage etc) this arvo, so feeling all chilled and relaxed now.

Lirin - I can't believe you've got snow! Mind you it's deffo got colder... Stay safe and away from the slippy bits.

WW - so sorry to hear you had a stressful night, not long to go now though. What time does it all happen on Wednesday? I'm excited for you as we were kind of bump buddies so am keen to hear how you get on and will be thinking of you lots.

Gin - my breathlessness was bad at about 10-12 weeks, then eased off but has been back for a few weeks now. Think it's just where everything gets a bit squished.

Rebekah - the first 14 weeks were the worst for me. Since then I've kind of found it a doddle. And the time will go so fast - I can't believe I'm almost at the end of it all. Mint, green apples and cereal got me through MS.

Yummymummy - Totally know what you mean re the uncertainty of "when" it's going to happen... Though I'm trying to keep myself busy and almost put it to the back of my head... Though I really don't want my baby to have a Christmas birthday but pushing this thought away as don't want to jinx it.

Lucy - OH was still smoking when we found out I was pregnant. I told him he couldn't come to the scans if he was still smoking at that point. He'd been going on about giving up for years, so I put my foot down and said it needed to be now. He did stop and whilst he'll have the occasional cheeky puff on a night out, he's done really, am v proud of him. Says he doesn't miss it either.

Kira - thanks so much, still need a few baby grooming items, so that code will deffo come in handy!

    :D Welcome newbies :)

I'm only doing jobs this arvo that can be done from the sofa and involve the laptop (ie internet shopping mainly :p). Everything else can wait until tomorrow!

Take care all, BM :) x

Had my extra midwife appointment this morning. Blood pressure still the same high reading as Thursday, so they'll check it again on Thurs. She said they're just keeping an eye on for now, and that there's no risk to baby.

Mentioned to hubby that midwife also listened for heartbeat, and he said if he'd have known that, he'd have taken the day off.... lol. I guess it's weird for the men as they don't get all those constant little movements and kicks. He does feel baby morning and night and mostly feels kicks etc, but I guess there's still so much he misses....... I expect he'll be coming to my appointment on Thursday now, lol. :) This was the first one that he's not made it to.... :rotfl:

Thank you Kira,am a bit more reasured now. Tried to make an appointment with MW,shes only at the surgery on thurs and she is booked up. Have no direct contact no for her, just the main hospital ones. Going to try and see GP tomorrow to see what he says. The nurse who told me results seemed unconcerned and said I would be sent a big yellow sticker to put on my mat notes so eveyrone is aware, and a leaflet. Apparently 1 in 4 preg women have it and im glad im aware now.

This might sounds a silly question, but do you talk whilst they do your BP? Whilst PG, we have randomly discovered that if i speak AT ALL whilst they do my BP, i get a really high reading! The M/W's dont believe me at first, but a couple of times when they make me speak, i've ended up with readings around 148/88, which is too high- so they redo me without speaking and i drop back to around 120/72!

Might not be relevant to you, but thought i would mention it in case!

Glad you are feeling a bit better about it. I think sometimes its the shock and unknown of a positive test result for anything rather than the actual thing itself.
Could you try and speak to a M/w at the hospital? My GBS test was done at the hospital, not the docs, so i would be speaking to the Community midwives team there if i had any questions. Maybe explain you havent been told anything and cant get an appointment at your surgery to ask.

At 39 weeks I was told I had GBS. I was hoping for a waterbirth but that changed to a consultant delivery. I had a drip in my hand the entire time during delivery feeding me antibiotics.. Its nothing to really worry about. If you have symptoms they will give you some meds straight away. I had no symptoms so it wasn't big worry. everyone carries GBS, just a few get effected by it at some point.

What symptoms should I be looking out for?

    Hello ladies,
After a weeks wait, I finally gave birth to my little girl Amy Ilse-Maree on the Saturday 26th November at 2:03am. Weighing a lovely 7lbs 14oz.
My waters broke the Thursday evening (just as eastenders was starting!) but nothing else happened so the following morning I phoned the hospital and was told they were just going to check me over... once being checked they told me I was going to be induced. I was on the consultancy unit since i had GBS. My labor was incredibly hard and lasted 14hours. Its all a blur to me now, alot of doctors in and out. Finally after 2 hours of pushing (which seemed to be the least painful bit!) the doctor got out her salad tongues and Amy was pulled out! Again, rough couple of minutes with her out..a blur for me but a crash team rushed in..the next thing I saw was her daddy holding her with a huge smile on his face. It was hard and crazy and I lost alot of blood but I would do it all again. Now I'm trying to stop walking like John Wayne and settle into motherhood.
