Can I ask re the group b strep, what does it mean once baby is born? Will it mean a longer stay in hospital? Would baby need to be put on meds one born?

    Hello ladies,
After a weeks wait, I finally gave birth to my little girl Amy Ilse-Maree on the Saturday 26th November at 2:03am. Weighing a lovely 7lbs 14oz.
My waters broke the Thursday evening (just as eastenders was starting!) but nothing else happened so the following morning I phoned the hospital and was told they were just going to check me over... once being checked they told me I was going to be induced. I was on the consultancy unit since i had GBS. My labor was incredibly hard and lasted 14hours. Its all a blur to me now, alot of doctors in and out. Finally after 2 hours of pushing (which seemed to be the least painful bit!) the doctor got out her salad tongues and Amy was pulled out! Again, rough couple of minutes with her out..a blur for me but a crash team rushed in..the next thing I saw was her daddy holding her with a huge smile on his face. It was hard and crazy and I lost alot of blood but I would do it all again. Now I'm trying to stop walking like John Wayne and settle into motherhood.

    Congratulations! :D

My midwife always specifically tells me not to talk when she's taking my BP, as she says she's found that it causes false high readings, so I do think there's something in that...

Yes-i have been told not to talk either during my bp checks, i have high bp as is it-so i have to be quiet, relax the best i can and not tense up!

Just rang hospital for my urine and swab results and have been told I have group b strep. I am really upset and stuff online seems so scary:(:(:(

Try not to worry too much, the good news is that they have detected it early. The virus comes and go and so can be found in the results of one set of tests and a second set of tests taken a couple of weeks later can show no strep b. They usually recommend testing for it between 35 to 37 weeks. If you do have it, then its good that you know and they like you to go into hospital as soon as labour starts and not to wait until you are in the second stage of labour so that they can put you on antibotics through the birth. Its good that you and everyone will be aware before the birth. Also ask midwife any questions you have and they should be able to reasure you. Not all areas seem to do the test as standard and I paid privately to have it done. I know two carriers and both have had very healthy and cute babies hth x

    Afternoon ladies.

Hope you are all well and aches and pains are minimal. I have had the best day ever, got my tax rebate cheque in AND my maternity allowance went into the bank ( well 4 days of it, will get the full payment on Thursday) so now I know everything is sorted I don't have to stress any more. Tax rebate will cover all my Christmas presents with money left over, so I'm planning on starting Friday with them.

Got our first antenatal class tonight, bit nervous as I don't really know what to expect, but excited too :o it starts at 6.30.

Got my check up tomorrow with the GP too, so it's all systems go for me in these 2 days.

Also so cold today, my cheeks are all rosy from being outside.

I wanted a sling but my OH saw a lady with one in the street and he was horrified :o Not sure how much I'd use it, I was more thinking for around the house, when I'm trying to get things done. One for thinking about though..

That steriliser looks very snazzy Mozzy, I would have went for it if we were going with Avent bottles.

OH is away tonight, and I am out shape, so I am consdering getting either indian takeaway or domino's pizza (the only places that will deliver here). Texted OH, and his reply was that as I am not feeling well it is only soup or white rice allowed. Right, he can forget. Had soup for lunch and ended up with the headache. So no soup again. Indian is cheaper, but maybe I fancy pizza more...

I got this steriliser in Amazon sale, my first baby purchase (had £15 voucher, so it only cost me £6.99!!!). They take any bottles, it doesn't have to be Avent. I was even thinking about sterilising the jars and lids for jam....
