What symptoms should I be looking out for?

If i remember correctly, my doctor told me it was pain/burning feeling when peeing, fever and low blood pressure. Usually they wont hand anything out since its best to give you antibiotics when labor has started.

Congratulations Kinnilew! I love the name! Hope you feel better soon!

Now, a question. I got the shooting pain in my 'lady bits' today. I have bee nsleeping for the past 2.5 hours, and just got up with this, hip pain (no news there) and the headache that seems to be getting heavier all the time.

No, I am not bothered about the hip or the headache, but the shooting pain own below makes me jump every time! I hope this is all normal, going to get more water into myself, as I think I am not drinking enough during the day and get some more rest, this time on the sofa...

    Hello ladies,
After a weeks wait, I finally gave birth to my little girl Amy Ilse-Maree on the Saturday 26th November at 2:03am. Weighing a lovely 7lbs 14oz.
My waters broke the Thursday evening (just as eastenders was starting!) but nothing else happened so the following morning I phoned the hospital and was told they were just going to check me over... once being checked they told me I was going to be induced. I was on the consultancy unit since i had GBS. My labor was incredibly hard and lasted 14hours. Its all a blur to me now, alot of doctors in and out. Finally after 2 hours of pushing (which seemed to be the least painful bit!) the doctor got out her salad tongues and Amy was pulled out! Again, rough couple of minutes with her out..a blur for me but a crash team rushed in..the next thing I saw was her daddy holding her with a huge smile on his face. It was hard and crazy and I lost alot of blood but I would do it all again. Now I'm trying to stop walking like John Wayne and settle into motherhood.

Congratulations! Sounds like a bit of a frantic ending! Glad you are all doing well, and i hope you settle into mummydom quickly! :)

I quite often get that shooting pain down below. It really does take your breath away but i asked the midwife last week and she assured me it was very normal.

  • Gin - I've come to the conclusion that most twinges between my boobs and my foof are totally normal these days... It might be ligaments stretching or baby moving, some make me jump, others warm my cockles! Unless you get some bleeding, or severe on-going pain, I'd put it down to "just being pregnant". Plus trust your instinct - if you really think something is "wrong", call your midwife.

This might sounds a silly question, but do you talk whilst they do your BP? Whilst PG, we have randomly discovered that if i speak AT ALL whilst they do my BP, i get a really high reading! The M/W's dont believe me at first, but a couple of times when they make me speak, i've ended up with readings around 148/88, which is too high- so they redo me without speaking and i drop back to around 120/72!

Might not be relevant to you, but thought i would mention it in case!

My midwife always specifically tells me not to talk when she's taking my BP, as she says she's found that it causes false high readings, so I do think there's something in that...

    Grrr. Blimmin' DH.
He is working from home today, and just sidled up and asked if it would be Ok if he said he would make best efforts to attend a work meeting up in town 6 days after i am due. (He is supposed to be off for the whole of the month post bean)

He wasnt much impressed with my answer (i.e ummm.. i dont think you can commit to that not knowing when or if bean will have arrived, what state i will be in, how difficult bean will be) much as i'm not much impressed that he needed to ask to know my likely response.

Is it unreasonable of me to suggest that even if bean DID arrive on time or early (being #1 it ontime maybe unlikely), that maybe, pi**ing off for the day and leaving me to it, when i dont have anyone else around for me, in my first week wasnt really on?
I suggested that best efforts put a bit too much onus on him to actual come through and attend, and that maybe a "don't count on me being there, but if everything happens to work out in favour, i'll try" would be better. Apparently that is unacceptable.
