  • I'm 44 and pregnant for the first time. I'm in a relationship with a lovely man, but we don't live together. We've known each other since April. I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and am completely clueless. Can anyone suggest any decent websites/forums that are like "pregnancy for dummies" or one idiot guide book type of thing. My first midwife appointment is on 16 December. Any help would be gratefully received.

Have to say, I'd never have believed the prices until I started looking. We were extremely lucky to pick up ours for so little!

Right leg very numb. ginvst, I get breathless very easy too, and I'm only carrying one.

hiphouse, stick around on here, and ask as many questions as you need. Welcome! I know nothing about children, and it's been very handy on here- there's usually someone who can answer any questions. Plague your midwife with questions as well, that's what she's there for.

Oh, and on a totally unrelated note. I've noticed a wierd prickly, stingy feeling kind in my boobs the last 2 days- mainly from round my nipple/areola area. Anyone else had this? Wondering if it is a sign my milk might be about to start leaking??
So far not had any leakage at all (now 36+4), (TMI alert)have just been seeing white splodges on the top of my nipples mainly on my left one, and these seem more prominent the last 2 days as well.

I've been having strange feelings in my nipples too-i haven't been leaking much though just a teeny bit. They also feel quite warm/hot a lot of the time-as if something is definetly going on!

Does anyone elses baby really hurt them when it moves? Mine is doubling me over in pain when she moves a long the top of my stomach!

Got maternity bras today so ready when she is!

Yup! Because baby is bigger now and running out of room-big movements do hurt me a lot. It shocks me a lot of the time when he does a huge kick against my ribs, but the biggest discomfort is when he stretches out-his bum sticks out at the front, legs at side and then i feel his head down below and i feel the urge to wee then as he's against my bladder. I feel like i have no room to breathe!

Can any of you that are already mums answer a question for me?

Acid reflux. Will it just go when baby arrives? Did any of you suffer with it and when did it stop after yo u had the baby
I have had it EVERY night for the last couple of weeks and it is really getting me down. I need to know if the end is near. I am not coping to well at the moment. Lower back hurts, acid reflux, struggling to eat and drink, skin is really sore, hip and lower back are killing ;-( feeling really low.

Oh and DD1 is home with a cough which also kept us wake last night
    Hope you are all olkay

Hi :) With my 1st baby-i had terrible heartburn and reflux (same again this time too) and i was amazed when i gave birth, was wheeled to my bed not too long after and i realised it had all gone away! I couldn't wait to eat a decent meal and not have heartburn/reflux! So yes it will stop :D

I have just brought 2 nursing bras at the weekend, along with my final few things for the baby so we are all set! I am almost 38 weeks now-and i'm scared but very excited!

It is a busy time at the moment, my son is in the process of potty training and my husband is busy getting things finished at work before he breaks up for xmas (or maternity whatever happens first!)-so everyone is tired. But still very excited! I can't wait to meet my new baby now and spend christmas as a family. xx

I know the breathlessness is not going to easy for a while - but I am only 12 weeks, so pressure on my other organs is not that much yet - it is the tiredness that is the cause for me gasping for air today...

Oh, and I have ordered the doppler from amazon yesterday... It is Sonoline B, not the cheapest one, but I hope for good results. Didn't want to order from ebay from China, and there were none second hand! If it arrives and works, I might take it home with me for Christmas, so my parents can hear the babies.

That is it - I called in sick. I have tried to work for the past hour or so, but it is not going well at all. I am constantly gasping for air, and feel exhausted. I will try and have a nap, and hope that helps. Promised to come to the office tomorrow (was planned anyway), as we have a meeting with the client.

Is the first trimester the worst for feeling ill? Please tell me it is. Or I can't take much more ... Dr's at 11 to let them know i'm preg. 7 weeks tomorrow. So long til we get til 12. Sigh.
  • Hopefully my last week now, we're all sorted with all the baby stuff so it's just a waiting game. I'm usually very organised so not knowing when it's going to happen is annoying! Feel like I can't text my 2 best mates about anything as they're both going to be at the birth so they always think it's THAT text and get disappointed when there's no news!

Thought something may have been happening on Fri night as had some different twinges/tightenings but must've been because I overdid it a bit with walking around town during the day, then walking around Lincoln Xmas Market for about 3 hours in the evening.

As far as show etc, I can only go by what happened first time round for me, I had a show on the Sun morning, proper contractions from midnight, waters had to be broken in hospital about 7am and he appeared at 9.15. Expecting it to be quicker this time round, but no way of knowing if it'll be similar or not.

Rebekah, I am told it gets easier, but can't promise you that! Today is the first day I feel it is too much for me with the tiredness, and I took a sick-day with this pregnancy for the first time. Hold on in there - it will be worth it in the end (or so I believe!). Tell your doctor how you feel, please, maybe there is something they can help you with.

Just placed an order with Figleaves for some Hot Milk underwear, found 25% off voucher as well, so it came up to £130 instead of £175 or so!!! Ok, I am not keeping all the stuff, but it is hard to know how the size will fit, so I have ordered a couple of different sizes and designs, and will probably only keep one or two items from the order.
