I'm not sure actually Blue Monkey :rotfl: seems like a better suggestion though. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Holey Moley! Just had the prospectus and fees through from the nursery we were planning to try for for bean when i go back. I knew it was pricey, but its even worse than i thought! £258 per week for a 4 day week
Even DH was shocked. He suggested a nanny would be cheaper. I laughed. Really, he has no idea. I think if we decided to have another baby at some point, that a nanny becomes more cost efficient, but round here, nannies have to be given so many extras (cars, mobiles, gym memberships etc) its ridiculous!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

How much????? Ok, we always said I am going back to work, as it is not only for the time when they are in nursery, but at this price, if the twins stay twins, it is going to be more than my salary at 5 days a week! It would be just about £2.5k a month!!!!! I hope they are cheaper around here...Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

I know! And that was for 4 days! Worked out 4 days was optimal for keeping my salary level, as it takes me just below higher rate tax, so i only lose 1/2 days pay for a full day off.
I'm pretty sure that these prices WILL be cheaper where you are. Its just stupid london prices..Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

According to Google, the average price for a child under 2 is £177 a week :eek:The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

I am under higher tax bracket now (since we were not given payrises for 2 years  - the latest promise is in January, but I am not holding my breath). However much it costs, the grandma (wither side) is not moving in!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
One we're looking at is £150 for 5 days a week full time, or £34 a day full time, so potentially we're looking at 2-3 days a week, if both OH and I can go down to a four day working week (but still working 5 days worth of hours across those four days so no drop in pay) and possibly baby being with the PILs one day a week... (MIL has offered to have the baby every day but I'm not 100% comfortable with this for several reasons...):j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0

Have any of you considered an Au pair?
My auntie had one last year as she had been very ill following the birth of her youngest (it was touch and go for a while) and needed some extra help with her two little one under the age of 2.
The girl they got was a lovely 19yo lass from spain. She stayed with them as part of the family and was paid "pocket money" of £60 a week plus the costs of feeding and keeping her. She got two days off a week which varied week to week and was expected to do one evening a week babysitting. She took part with the family activities and days out just like a big sister really.
Maybe an option for someone who has a spare room, doesnt mind sharing their home and only needs assistance with the kids a few days a week. Obviously a bit different if you need full time childminders more than a couple of days a week.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0
