73 working days left.... Ok, fair enough, I am not 12 weeks yet (on Thursday), and I am taking all 6 weeks of annual leave before hand, and I hope to fight to get the bank holidays that will happen during the maternity leave before I leave (haven't put those into calculation yet, as I can foresee a fight with HR about this - if anyone have any useful info about this, please share it).

Had a bad day with work today, so really, would leave today if I could (have been saying this since last year, and even had another offer, but it made it easier being in this place with IVF treatment).

:o For those taking nighties into hospital and are going to breast feed, are you taking specific nighties for this, or just normal nighties. (blonde moment)

I reckon as long as they're boob-accessible then it doesn't matter what type of nighties they are! :D

Lirin - thanks, my friend also had her own emergency op almost 3 weeks ago so think it is about time she had things get better for her & her mum.

Twigpig - glad to know you are still lurking :D

Christmas Decs - we (royal we) will put up tree in the playpen to stop Dylan trashing it and have decided to put up the lights everywhere and but not the tacky stuff too (Dylan will just eat it).

But tbh the lights are what do it for us as hubby always insists at some point we sit there in the dark watching tv with the coloured lantern lights strung everywhere (we have some very useful strategically placed hooks in the ceiling).

Outside the front door I have a real christmas tree in a pot which hangs on every year and I always have some big bauble irridescent lights on it with the electric cable going through the cat flap :rotfl:we dont have a cat but the flap is useful :rotfl:

Maternity Clothes - Am continuously wearing 2 summer maxi dresses as they fit and are comfortable. It occurred to me that I havent anything that will fit properly after birth and these maxi dresses have almost had it. Suggested perhaps hubby get me some clothes for xmas, then though but what about breastfeeding etc. Managed to order 6 dresses (summer type ones with adjustable straps, hoping I can drop the straps over shoulder for breastfeeding) 1 skirt 10 pairs underwear for just over £80 delivered, just hope to god they fit :rotfl:as need to have something that fits and clearly all my other clothes are not going to :rotfl:now it better not be cold when bubs comes... Have got tops that will fit over the top but do not fancy an artic breeze around my legs as socks are a distant memory, tights yeah right ! and trousers I cannot stand at all since pregnant.

    Ro xx

First port of call would be your contract, it should detail your annual leave and what happens with bank holidays.

    For example, mine says:

"You are entitled to 25 days in each holiday year, and this includes any entitlement under the Working Time Regulations. If you start or end your employment part way through the holiday year your entitlement to holiday in that year will be assessed on a pro rata basis.

You are entitled to all public and bank holidays in addition to you company holiday entitlement and will be paid for each public and bank holiday. The company reserves the right to require you to work on a bank holiday in return for which you shall be entitled to extra holiday equal to the period worked, to be taken as agreed with the company."

I went in with the mindset that this read (to me) as the bank/public holidays would accrue as unpaid holiday to be taken once my maternity leave was finished - I can't be on maternity leave and be a public holiday (as far as work is concerned) at the same time. I was ready to argue if I needed to but our HR just agreed with me.

I hope this helps, you might have to fight for it if your contract is a little vague or perhaps there is another lady in your company that has been on ML and returned that you could ask?

Thanks, Icey - we get bank holidays off and paid in addition to annual leave. And you are right - I cannot take a day off on bank holiday whilst on maternity leave. I have found some European court ruling or similar somewhere saying that woman should be allowed to take the leave that happens during the maternity/sick leave once she is back. I am going to try and ask for the 2012 days to be taken before the maternity leave starts... I am not intending to come back to the same company (will look for another job, won't be able to be stay at home mum for both financial and sanity reasons).

The problem with the company is that it is growing by buying other companies, and we one of the 'bought' bits. There is no one in my office who has come back from maternity leave recently, the only lady I know has come back just as I started there 3.5 years ago. I will get this sorted. After the scans on Friday and Wednesday. Hope all is well, as have been having different pains and getting worried! (I had last scan 11 days ok, and all was fine, that should calm me down, but then I have been stressed a lot in this time, and I need a break)

  • We have a Christmas tree up outside my office now :)

It looks like I have 40 days left to work, unless I use up any extra holiday, but I'm planning to keep it for the summer and go to 3 or 4 day weeks instead.
