I know- was a bit taken aback when they said thats what they actively encouraged..... Doubt it will be what I would do if C-Section is necessary!0 -
Carmilla Ive a high BMI and am under consultnat care, ive been on DVT prevention injections since very early on in part due to weight and part due to an ongoing back issue which restricts my mobility. the injections are pretty simple to do once you have been shown by the midwife how to do them.
the only issue the consultant has with me is if i think i want an epidural i am to have it early on, and i also have to stop my injections ideally 24 hours before i have an epidural. so to get round the timescales etc, they have booked me in for an induction, told me when to take my last injection and we will go from there.
Im not doing a birth plan as i dont see the point, i will have whatever they recomend at the time so if i can have a natural birth great, if i have a c-section ok so what, its not the end of the world as long as baby gets out safely.
Its weird about different hospitals and timescales for keeping you in. Mine says all new mums will be kept in for at least 1 night to ensure you are coping with baby and are ok feeding/bathing/changing baby and after that 1 night it depends on what type of birth you had as to when you go home. Im in for at least 2 nights so will go from there, ideally want to be home sooner rather than later but will see what happens as im happy to go with the flow.0 -
Jenjade, sounds like it might not be long for you now then!
This probably sounds really odd, but having to stay in hospital actually worries me far more than any birth / what to do with babies question. I've never spent a night in hospital - at least not since I've been old enough to remember it - and my only real experience of them has been when I've lost family members. At least it's a different hospital, but really don't like the thought of spending any more time there than is absolutely necessary. Especially when I only live 5 minutes away!0 -

Oh i dont know... if all went ok and it was safe to do so then i would rather be at home in my bed with my husband nearby than stuck on a ward without him.
Im hoping i dont have the baby at night - we've been told that if i delivery during the night then i'll be shifted to a ward with baby and hubby will be sent home until visiting time. I was really upset at the thought of that.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

Not odd at all. Exactly how i feel.
I dont want to be induced because hubby isnt allowed to be on the ward with me while we wait for it to work - he can only be there during the procedure and then visiting times of 10-12 and 7-8. If it takes a while i could be on my own most the time.
Then there is the time after the birth that i will have to be on the ward on my own. If i deliver in the day he can spend more time with us before being sent home, but if its night they wont let him come to the ward outside of visiting times. I understand why - they dont want to wake all the other ladies up, but im upset at the prospect of us getting our little family together and then being separated again so soon.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

At the hospital I'm going to, they've got a maternity 'hotel' attached to the department so if everything is straightforward with the birth, they like you to stay in for at least one night but you get a room in this hotel and partners can stay over too, baby is in the room with you as well. Obviously if thing's aren't as straightforward then you're in the normal ward and no partners allowed...:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0

You are doing well!!! Once you have finished, would you like to come and do mine
Every place I look at I think I would like to clean there and there, but I am supposed to be working from home today and boiler man took a couple of hours, (very chatty, but I like him, he explains all he does to me, nice to feel not a blond woman).
I am secretly hoping to be signed off work for whatever reason, so I can enjoy my house and hopefully get to grips with all the cleaning I have neglected in the last 6 weeks or so! (I blame pregnancy fatigue)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Morning ladies.
Had another blissful nights sleep with only 1 toilet break, the big man is looking out for me!!
Birth plan, mines is to stay at home as long as possible, I don't want to be strapped to a bed, and the longer I stay at home the longer I'm without pain relief, which hopefully will mean I have an alert baby and they'l let me out quicker.
My friend got a pethidine injection and her baby would not wake up after birth, so because he wasn't waking to feed they kept her in for 3 days!
Gas & Air, makes me sick, unfortunate incident with gas at dentists when I was young. Really hope C Section would be a last resort for me, don't fancy having my middle sliced open and my guts hanging out, plus I've heard a lot of horror stories about the mental recovery being worse with a sec.
My pain threshold is medium I'd say, so we'l see what happens. Used to be totally petrified at the thought of labour, but since I got pregnant I've been really calm about it all, baby needs to come out, no point worrying about itThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I've been doing my natal hypnotherapy CD since 28 weeks, now been using the 32weeks+ birth prep CD part of it for a few weeks. I don't know how much to attribute to the CD, and how much is just me, but at the mo, i'm feeling quite relaxed about the birth thing, to the point of (in a very wierd way!) actual looking forward to it!!!! Obviously i know its not a walk in the park, but i've been trying to "relax into" the whole idea it is going to happen, and that the more relaxed and at ease i am, the easier it will be. Gonna keep up with the CD, and see what occurs really.
DH likes the idea of a water birth, or at least water labour, and i'm open to it. Now i am discharged from consultant care (despite BMI), it seems more likely i can give it a try if the pool is available. Otherwise, i'll just retreat to my calm dark space with rechargeable candles, my birth hynotherapy music, and try and keep calm but mobile for as long as possible. Not set for or against an Epi, but like seafarers wife, i'll have to ask for it early if i want one. For now, i'm just going to concentrate on relaxing, and telling my body its all ok and safe to go with the flow, and see what happens!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
