im not sure we will have the choice yet, im sure it dosent come into effect right away, there was talk of it a wile ago aswel and to be honest the media hype everything up. i saw on the news today they were saying about the risks of home births, at the moment its fassionable for them to discuss birthing.
if you discuss with your midwife your concerns she will take you thru all the options and hopefully tell you whats available in your area. sometimes mobile epidurals are not available or if you are more than (i think its six) cm dialated they can refuse it.pethadine is also conditional on dialation as far as i know. water births are not always available same with home births. im not making it any better am i0 -
We're still not getting anywhere with names... our surname starts with S and so names ending with S are out, as are names beginning with S.... and we have a pretty big family, most of whom have already used the names we like on their children. Combined with the fact that we used to foster cats (so any names used for cats are out), it's really tricky!
As for birth, we got asked about our perfect birth at antenatal class. Personally, I'd quite like a water birth, but as it's my first time and I'm not really sure what to expect, how I'll cope with labour etc, I'm happy just to wait and see how I feel!0 -

er yeah i did read something about that in the daily fail online..i ended up posting a comment as certain people - mostly men - were saying "ladies..if you can't handle it don't get pregnant, birth is not a big deal" etc.. and how do they know?!
it wasn't a very nice comment .. i'm surprised they posted it!0 -
Morning All
Lucy - sounds like the kind of gallivanting my hubby would like!
Carmilla - re birthing, I have high bmi too, this is my first (but have had previous mc) I dont think they would let me anywhere near a birthing pool, did have to see anaethetist due to bmi and he said will you want an epidural said dunno will have to seeI have no idea how I will cope but not going to plan much as think that I will cope better if open minded rather than being upset if dont get what I want.
I accept that I am at more risk of c section due to weight but I will do whatever is best for baby and me. The only think I want to avoid is labouring for ages & ages to then need an emergency section anyway cos baby cant come out for some reason but think that theres not much I can do about that unless I have a crystal ball!!!
Gonna do the natal hypnotherapy cd, might as well :rotfl:
Mozzy - hun you wont be the only one bricking it....... the other thing that bugs me is am going to have to keep checking hubby is upright
Mousey was mightily freaked out this morning as my stomach kept rumbling and think it was scaring him as he would not keep still
My mum is off today so looking after Dylan this morning whilst she hits tkmaxx etc have requested she get me a changing bag as think the boots freebie is a bit small, also some baby socks and muslin clothes....... ooh and a cornish pasty

i thought i would post this story thats in my local paper today (about the hosital i will be having baby at) http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/9385468.Burnley_FC_players_support_family_in_hospital_charity_event_for_baby_Olly/
its a really nice story baby was really early and he looks adorable now.0 -
I'd quite like to try the water birth too, but I know we only have one pool, and even if it was free, you apparently need two midwifes with you at all times, so I'm not pinning my hopes on getting it. Other than that, my only thoughts are to try to keep upright as long as possible, let gravity help, and go with the flow!
Last time, I had gas and air, but I didn't realise till they did my stitches that I hadn't been breathing it in properly! First time they stuck the needle in, I took a huge gasp in, and *wow* that's how it works! So I guess I really did the birth without it, but even so, I'm glad I had it for the stitches!

Eyeliner- Good luck, I'm sure you know we'll all be thinking about you.
Alizee- you look tiny, in every sense! Look back at my last bump pic- if I sit now, my legs have to be open, as bump needs to sit in between.Pregnancy is so glamorous.
Lucy- meeting the TG guys! Wow, I'd love that, your OH is lucky.
I'm not doing a birth plan. What's the point? DH will be with me, and he knows what I want anyway. No-one really reads my notes at any appointment in any case.
My blood has risen, so I'm borderline for being allowed epidural or stronger drugs. Would prefer to do it on gas and air, and have been told C-Section will be a last resort under general anaesthetic. I'm not going to in all earth-mother natural style, if I need drugs or help, I'll take it.
I know I'd like water, if possible. I know our delivery suite has a huge bath in most rooms, and a couple of birthing pools,so here's hoping.
My hospital seems a bit queued up- they won't allow you in until you definitely need it, which is alright. They've already told me I may as well stick the immersion on when I phone to tell them I'm in labour. They've also said it is in and out as quick as possible- mentioned at one class people being told to go home 6 hours after a C-Section.0 -
going home 6 hrs after a c section dosent sound like a good plan. my sister had her baby in hospital and stayed in the delivery suite for 6 hrs and went home but she had a normal birth. but a c section is a major operation0
