I wasn't offered the flu jab, you seem to be expected to realise when flu day is and book yourself in round here! I dithered for a bit, but I spoke to a midwife at the Mothercare event and she said pregnant women are affected by flu in a different way to everyone else, and they really recommend it. No real side effects here other than a very tiny sore spot where the needle went in.

Well, had my low placenta scan today, it is well out of the way now, but rough size estimate at 34 weeks, over 6 pounds! Oooh my :D
  • Just managed to catch up. Been trying to find xmas pressies ready as I want it all done and wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. I just keep hearing of friends of friends who have just had their babies and they are all 3-4 weeks early....im not ready to have a baby in 2-3 weeks....I want some me time before baby arrives and I want its first xmas to be next year not this year! Think its just starting to make me panic a little bit. ... plus im trying to find a secret santa present for someone who wants a keyring which has like a zip on it so you can store a few coins or something.....sounds easy but I just cant find anything!

If you have ever had REAL flu, you would want the jab.
Its not a live vaccine so wont develop a mild flu like blip nor will it increase your risk of getting it contrary to popular myths or what the woman down the road says.
Being pregnant you are more liekly to catch flu this winter and more likely to develop serious complications if you do get it.

See i'd disagree with that personally. I've had proper flu (laid up in bed for a week) but I've refused the flu jab. I don't mind the 'normal' flu jab and if it was just that I'd probably have had it but with it now being combined with the swine flu jab I said no. to me the swine flu vaccination was fushed out due to the epidemic and has only been around a very short time so I don't feel confident that anyone can be sure it doesn't have an effect on unborn babies. plus I consulted medical professionals who told me that I was at no greater risk of getting the flu due to being pregnant and as I've had it once in 30 years I felt the risk of catching it was quite low. plus I'm pretty good at avaoiding people who have any 'germs' of any kind as my dad is quite frail and if I catch anything I can't visit my parents so i've got used to avoiding things quite well! I can see why people do have the jab though....it is very much personal choice!

I'm exhausted this morning. Been awake half the night worrying about money and struggling to get comfortable due to my achey bones!! We got a huuuuge water bill yesterday, it looks like DH must have read the meter wrong 6 months ago so we've got a 12 months bill instead of 6 months!! DH usually pays it but I feel a bit bad so will pay half, unfortunately its fallen at a bad time as my car insurance is due next week, my car is going in for a biiig service next week (2 belt changes possibly:eek:) and then of course its nearly xmas!! I do have the money so shouldn't really worry about it but I want to save as much as possible before I finish work, especially as it now looks like I'll be getting redundancy so won't have the option of coming back.....I did volunteer but its a scary prospect, it'll be the first time I haven't had a job for 17 years!!!

Oooh, something good after my whinge!! I won a mothercare moses basket with rocking stand for £15.18 on ebay last night! Going to pick it up tonight so will then just need to get a new matress for it and give it all a good wash.

So even if you only have a few weeks left you guys are getting the jab??I took my DD for hers last month and didn't even think about me plus the MW/cons haven't mentioned it.Hmmmm.

I wasnt offered it by my m/w or gp, but i read about it, and asked, and they said yes straight away. I had it 2 weeks ago, and specifically waited till i was in 3rd Tri, as thats when you apparently get the most benefit passed through as immunity to the baby. My place automatically gave me the inactive version, but its worth double checking with them when you book and arrive that that is what they will give you.

Morning ladies n bumps, thanks for reassurance and words last night, I took my first insulin shot this morning and it was virtually painless, i'm still doing the blood monitoring and iron too so have quite a bit to remember everyday, Weirdly i had felt quite ok bar my headache the last few weeks so surprised the gtt showed such high levels, I'm going to be seeing consultant fortnightly and have a scan at 32 weeks as well as 34 weeks, I will also be seeing my mw the week I don't see conusltant, so I know I will be getting checked weekly and they are confident with all the checks and scans I should make it through to 38 weeks xx

Hope today is a good day for us all and thanks again xx

  • Our doctors gave the choice between the jab which covers bird, swine and normal flu, and normal flu on it's own.

I just went for the normal one. Apart from a sore arm, and still having a mark, I haven't had any ill effects from it.

I'm asthmatic so felt the need more this year with having bump.

31 weeks this week, how time flies. Xxxx
  • Thanks WW for the links :-)
She specifically wanted to replace her old keyring that broke which was a teddy bear with a zip on it so she could store a little more than money........Im going to keep looking and if I cant find anything similar then I will just find a pretty looking keyring instead - thanks again :D

I think you may have difficulty breast feeding such a small baby, but I'm not 100% on that, Bump or Love Crafting will probably be able to tell you more. I think you will be able to express though, and feed them that way. Best of luck when the time comes Jannine, I know we'l all be thinking of you! xx

sorry im still catching up. as long as your baby has a sucking mechanism you can breastfeel, it is a bit harder to do until they reach around 6lb but it is completley possible, i found with my youngest that having a warm damp flannel handy helps, wilst trying to feed just place the warm flannel on your breast just above the babys head (not on the head but on the breast) it seems to help with milk flow.

    off to catch up
