  • Hi ladies, just back from midwife, I'm 2/5ths engaged, is that good for 35w?

Bad results from wee, keytones (sp?), leucs? & I look anemic. So told off for not eating properly & my sudden faintness that keeps happening is due to low blood sugar, ooops!

She's told me to get a flu jab, not sure if I want to inject stuff into body right now, you never know the outcome. I get Thalidomide nightmares about everything!

Am I the only crazy one not doing it?

Yep it gets right on my wick as well! A friend who has a 16 year old daughter told me I was wasting my money when I bought a bouncy chair and an activity mat for the floor! Personally I think I will use them quite a bit.
My SIL asked what we needed that she could buy, I said a baby bath. She said that it was a complete waste of money and she would buy a support chair for the baby to use in the main bath! My bathroom is quite big and drafty and I plan to bath baby in the living room for the first few monthsr with the fire on to keep warm!

Well I will say my friend has a 13 week old baby boy and she uses her bouncy chair and activity mat, LOADS. So I wouldn't worry too much.

I don't understand why people think their opinion is wanted, at all. If I was making a massive mistake I'd want to know about it, other than that, butt out. I've had a lot of stick for spending £100 on a breast pump, but I personally researched it, looked at different brands, read hundreds of reviews on the internet etc before I spent that money. I think people assume when you get pregnant you just blindly spend money when it comes to baby things.

Congrats Missy Moo :) Has he got a name?

Yes baby will be 30 weeks if delivery happens as planned. I was told baby weighed around 755g at my last growth scan, this was over a week ago now. They only do growth scans every fortnight here so I'm due another this Thursday. Going on previous scans and weights, baby seems to be putting on around 220g per week, so this week I'm hoping baby weighs at least 950g. Obviously its not that accurate but its all I have to go on. I didn't know you could get smaller nappies than the micro baby ones!

We haven't really discussed feeding, that will be happening at this Thursdays appointment. I am hoping to express if I can't breastfeed (can you even breastfeed such prem babies?) They have facilities at the hospital for expressing, so the first few weeks I will express at the hospital.

I'll find the link for you hun.At her smallest when she was first born DD dropped to about 1lb 3oz so we had to buy the very very tiny nappies.Have you bought the 2lb to 5lb pampers?Guessing at 30 weeks + they'd be ok.

With the feeding baby will most likely be NG/OG(tube in nose or mouth to tum) fed to start with using your expressed milk then once they hit 34 ish and they can co-ordinate the suck/swallow/breathe process they introduce them to the breast or bottles. My DD just used to nuzzle about and was too small to latch on but it does help stimulate your milk supply just like the kangaroo care you'll be doing with your bubs.I managed to express every three hours including through the night for the first 5 months when DD was in NICU but it is tiring so if you can get meals batch cooked and frozen etc in advance I'd really recommend it hun.Stock up on bottles of water as I found keeping my fluid levels up helped my supply so always had a bottle of evian in my bag plus things like cereal bars for a quick snack x

ETA they'll prob use special NUK teats too if you do introduce a bottle so don't go too mad buying bottles till you know which teat baby feeds best from. And have you got a decent pump? It'll be used lots..I bought a medela electric and it was fab x

Congratulations missymoo!! Can't wait to hear more when you have the time!

Doc's appointment was fine, he said Pip is head down, lying to my right hand side. My blood pressure has dropped quite a bit though, I've been around the 133/85 mark the whole time but today it was 117/73. He just said to watch out for feeling light-headed and stuff. I've got my next midwife appointment on the 8th December so shall wait and see if it's just a blip. I feel ok anyway. Had my flu jab as well, hopefully that won't knock me sideways! It hasn't had any effects like that when I've had it before (am asthmatic so have had it the last few years) so fingers crossed I'll be ok this year too.

Oh I don't know, OH's mum comes from an old fashioned family (her parents were farmers) and is all "don't spend too much" at every opportunity. Even Christmas/Birthdays etc my OH and his siblings have never got a lot (not that it's necessarily a bad thing, just how it is) so I can't see her going over board at all.

She wanted to buy a 2nd hand car seat for her car, and one of the bigger ones too, and I out right refused to consider putting my child in it. I want rear facing until he is 24 months old.

I sound like such a spoilt brat :o

As hubby and I told his Mum, things are a lot different these days. Tying kids into the car with rope or not at all was prefectly fine then, but safety has moved on a lot since those days :). There is a story about hubby and friends all squishing in the back of their estate car after school and one kid rolling out again whilst the car was moving. Things have evolved...... :rotfl:
