Yes baby will be 30 weeks if delivery happens as planned. I was told baby weighed around 755g at my last growth scan, this was over a week ago now. They only do growth scans every fortnight here so I'm due another this Thursday. Going on previous scans and weights, baby seems to be putting on around 220g per week, so this week I'm hoping baby weighs at least 950g. Obviously its not that accurate but its all I have to go on. I didn't know you could get smaller nappies than the micro baby ones!

We haven't really discussed feeding, that will be happening at this Thursdays appointment. I am hoping to express if I can't breastfeed (can you even breastfeed such prem babies?) They have facilities at the hospital for expressing, so the first few weeks I will express at the hospital.

sorry for not posting sooner, but i just wanted to let you know our little baby boy was born 14th Nov weighing 7lb5. Everything is going really well, he's taken to bfing really well, although he feeds every 2-2.5 hours, so no sleep for me!! Have never been so tired or busy in my whole life. He's so very worth it. Will try and catch up soon when i actually get a spare min.

    much love missy x

please egnore the last post i made i hadnt realised baby will be so early. wilst in scbu they will recomend that you express your milk and give it via ng (a tube in the nose) your baby wont be able to suck yet and it also saves energy so baby can concentrate on growing. they will let you use there special breat pump in the hospital, it is alot easier if you take a picture of baby in there with you to help your milk flow.

the vitamins and every piece of food they offer you please take it, you will need it.

all i can say to you really is, i know how scared you are, but look at my signiture, my babies are now 8 7 and 4 they were all premmies and this baby is expected to put in an apperance around 32 weeks (unless the meds work) if you need anything at all, a moan, a cry anything please pm me, i have been there and know what it feels like, the smallest thing can seem like such a big thing. most of all i just want to give you (((hugs)))

    congratulations missymoo

Good to see you on here again, lovecrafting! Had worried.

    Congrats Missymoo!

I had a rubbish night- up every half hour, was managing fine until my hips cracked again, then it got really painful. Tossed and turned for 90 mins, then called it a night and got up at 0430. Sky is rubbish that early in the morning!
DH eventually woke, and came down to find me surrounded by a very sleepy Lab, the Collie on the floor, and a cat skulking on the window. I'm just lazing around the house until physio time, then I'll go to the library....
  • Ah Lirin, dont say Sky is rubbish early hours of the morning! I`ve had sky installed in my bedroom ready for those night feeds! I can sympathise with the cracking hips, i have bad hips anyway, and being pregnant just makes it 100x worse :( Have just asked the midwife to refer me to a physio as the SPD is alot worse this time round than with DD3.
Midwife also just said i`m measuring at 28 weeks, and i`m only just 26 weeks, so even more worried this lil man is gonna be a big-un! Consultant app next week tho, so midwife thinks i`ll be given a growth scan.
    Congrats MIssymoo! :)
Hope everyone is having an nice day xx

  • sorry hun i didnt mean to worry anyone i got lost in tesco and ended up looking for glitches.

well whats happening with me. baby is still in there, they have increased the asprin they want me to take because it aparently prevents premature labour, had a little scare last week so am not on bed rest, yeah right i have kids running round it isnt going to happen. im not allowed the flu jab still so wont be having that. i have midwife on thursday looking foreward to hearing the heartbeat, still dont know what flavour the baby is, i think the 20 week scan will be better for that, im still on fortnightly scans and consultant apointments with midwives the week inbetween. sick of seing them to be honest lol.

i have made a contriversial decision (judgment is not required) i will not be breastfeeding baby after 2 weeks.(thats 2 weeks after getting home not 2 weeks after birth, so probably around 2.5 months) DH wants to do night feeds and having him help with that will be a big help.

    so, how is everyone?
  • Lovecrafting, I think u should be proud of urself for breastfeeding at all. I point blank refused with all 3 DDs. It just wasnt something I wanted to do. This time however, i`d like to "give it a bash" altho wont beat myself up if i cant do it. DH doesnt understand why i want to try this time, and tbh, nor do I! And think he is finding it stranger that i feel i want to this time as its a boy. My decision was made right at the start of this pregnancy tho. Hope ur feeling ok :) xx

  • to be honest emmylou the only reason i am going to breastfeed for as long as that is baby will be in nicu (ok a miricle might happen and we will go to term) and baby will need as much colostrum etc as it can to stay safe and grow. i didnt enjoy breastfeeding it felt weird. what annoys me sometimes is you get the breastfeeding gistappo (my friend on facebook is one of them bf all her kids and cant see why anyone would even consider putting formula in there bodies) it almost makes me more adimant that it isnt going to happen. midwives are just as bad, they make you feel like your killing your child if you dont breastfeed. i would rather use a bottle and know that i can get some help, and sleep than breastfeed and have a baby perminently attached to my bits

I don't think all midwives are like that, so many people I know who have recently i.e in the past 3 months popped out babies and they're all bottle feeding and said they didn't have much aggro from the midwives at all. I think if you're adamant about what you want to do and it's in your notes. They also got out of hospital really fast.

I'm choosing to breast feed as I don't work or have any other children, so should have the time to do it, I also if I can want to use the formula money, to put in a savings account for little one. I'm also lazy and can't be bothered with the faff of making up bottles, heating, sterilising etc :o

I know it's a choice for most people though, and wish some people would butt out, either way your baby isn't going hungry and it's nothing to do with anyone but babies mum which choice is made.

  • I'm not having a flu jab (and haven't been offered one). I had a really horrible cold just after having the flu jab, the only time I tried having one maybe 5 years ago, and I think that I felt less bad with swine flu than I did after the jab! Touch wood, I seem to have avoided all the colds and other illnesses that have been going round so far this winter....

    Congrats Missymoo!

Glad your insulin shot went OK Toniq :)

Lovecrafting, I'm only going to take 8 weeks mat leave but am hoping to breastfeed up until 6 months, and just express milk for the baby to have during the day, so I guess if you wanted to try b/f longer your DH could feed with expressed milk in the night. However I know that things don't always work out as planned, and it's possible I might switch to formula when I'm back at work. No-one should be judging you for what is your personal decision :) You just have to do what works for you!
  • Lovecrafting..hoping for that miracle for you xx
This bump had a bed booked in NICU at 26 weeks, had the dexamethasone steroids, been in and out on nephedapine to stop contractions and "supposed" to be on bed rest but have three others.BUT I'm 34+3 today so hoping the same happens for you x

We decided I will breastfeed, if possible, and express as well so DH can help.

Our hospital is showing signs there's a couple of breastfeeding gestapo on the ward- if I can't do it, or it doesn't work, I will switch to formula/ expressing quite happily.

For me, the decision is based on practicality- breastfeeding costs nothing. Don't know if i'll be able to do it,or if it'll feel weird- bit taken aback though by the amount of literature I've been given on it so far. Between the midwives, consultants and GP, I have around 30 'handy little leaflets' which all say more or less the same thing!
