I've asked on the 12-24 thread but thought I'd ask here too.....

What brand of bottles is everyone going for? I've not bought a steriliser yet, as I guess the bottle brand determines which one to buy and I don't know what to buy? I'm going to try breatfeeding, but will express after a few weeks, so will need bottles. I guess a steriliser would be good for dummies so should I decide on the brand and buy bottles and steriliser now? (confused!) :)

I think i mentioned this before, but supposedly, different babies get on with different bottles as the brands have different shaped teats. Apparently the best thing to do, is have a really really good look at your own nipples/aureola shape, and then browse the different brands to find the closest teat shape match. Some are flatter, some more round, bigger, smaller etc. Something with a baby controlled vari-flow teat is also advised, esp if you want to combine bottle and breast, as breast fed babies struggle with single speed milk flow, as they have alot more control with their suck from breastfeeding and the fast flow from a bottle makes them choke a bit (not dangerously so).

I breastfed and also expressed for one bottle per day and we just bought the "standard" bottles (which are loads cheaper than the wider bottles) and had no problems. Some people find their baby gets on better with different bottles/teats from the point of view of wind/colic but you can't tell that beforehand so if I were in your shoes, I'd start off with some standard bottles (I think it's about £2.99 for a pack of three in Mothercare) and see how you go. Unless you have a pump which doesn't take standard bottles in which case I'd get the ones that fit the pump.

    HI

I'm after some advice, and sorry if this is a blonde question.
But just been reading over the supplement list:

    Calcium
    32wks onwards: 1000mg per day
    At onset of Labour: 1000mg

    Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)
    34-37wks: 1-2 500mg capsule
    38-40wks: 34 500mg capsule
Insert 1 capsule each night during week 38

    Raspberry Leaf Tea (RLT)
32-34wks: 1 cup (or 1 tablet) per day
34-36wks: 2 cups (or 2 tablets) per day
36-38wks: 3 cups (or 3 tablets) per day
38-40wks: 4 cups (or 4 tablets) per day

    Arnica Tablets
    3 days before: 2 30c tablets 3 times a day
Onset of Labour: 2 30c tablets every 2 hours (upto 6 doses)
After Labour (upto 5 days after): 2 30c tablets 3 times a day

What are each of those for?

And i've also heard of a cream you can apply to help prevent tearing  does anyone know what that is.

AND - my friend has given me her birthing ball - what should i be doing with it?? I'm not going to NCT, but realise I should be using it for something???

    thanks! :o

Arnica helps with bruising caused by child birth. The cream could be Arnica cream? Although perineal massage is supposed to help prevent tearing.

EPO nd RLT are to help the uterus contract, therefore making your contractions more effective and reducing the length of the second stage of labour. They also help after child birth to reduce the size of your uterus and lighten the bleeding.

Or so I have read on the internet ......

Calcium is obviously something to do with your bones, but I don't know the advantages of taking in pregnancy.

It helps just to sit on the birthing ball as it opens your pelvis up, assisting baby to drop down. You can rotate it in small circles using your hips or side to side, which also helps.

I'm too tired to say anything else ..... 1 more working day to go :o
