My delivery of maternity clothes have just arrive in time for my weekend Babymoon in Edinburg!
Which is a bit of a relief as I look terrible as for the last couple if weeks I've been wearing the clothes I used to wear before I lost some weight and kept for painting and gardening etc. I think I might surprise DH by having a shower, wearing clothes that fit and putting makeup on. If he is really lucky I might cook him dinner too
Lucy - I know it's hard not to worry, so when I try to get some perspective on my current irrational fear ( which happen way to frequently) I think about other peoples pregnancies and the crazy things they do that are not recommended but turn out well. My mother for instance smoked dope, took other drugs, smoked and drank casually while pregnant with me, (70's) and pregnancy issues aside I've been healthy all my life. My 15 year old brother and his 16 year old speed taking girlfriend had my niece and nephew and they were healthy babies and children. I realise this is a vast generalisation, but in some of the poorer countries of the world they have really poor diets and have healthy babies. Several western countries have differing rules on meat, fish and cheese consumption, remember we are ultra careful in the UK.
I was über strict on my diet until 20 weeks and the consultant told me I could be more relaxed. Now I have a Starbucks a week, sometimes two, but I still have to remind myself to relax a little more. In summary, don't worry you are not alone, try and relax and people do far worse things than you and everything is fine!:ANeeding to save all the money, lots of MSE learning still to do

Hi Ladies
Just seen this e-petition through Bounty on facebook and thought i would share it with you all. Link is at the bottom if you feel able to support the e-petition.
Recruit 5000 more NHS midwives in England
Responsible department: Department of Health
More babies were born in England in 2010 than in any year since 1972, whilst births to women aged 30 or older were at their highest since 1946. The NHS is desperately short of midwives, and the shortage affects every region of England. We need urgent action from the Government, including a target to recruit the equivalent of 5000 more full-time midwives. Care for women but especially babies at the very start of life should be shielded from the cuts.

Wonder Womble hows the pregnancyt going, haven't really bneen able to keep up with this thread as it moves so fast. But i remember you like us had a nuchal/bad diagnosis around 12 week point. Did you go for any tests in the end or just reassurance from ultrasound?
Still worrying about our bub a bit as even though we had tests to eliminate problems obviously cant eliminate all.
Hey neas, how are things going with yourselves? When are you guys due? I know what you mean about still worrying, I think you will until you have baby in your arms, but then I think any prospective parent does. We are fine, I'll be 35 weeks on Sunday and really can't wait for baby to be here!
Our high risk results were from the 16 week bloods which said we were 1 in 31 for Down's. It was a huge shock, even though I am 37, you just never think it will be you. Anyway we saw the Amnio Consultant twice and he was very vague when answering my questions and didn't instill confidence in me. OH didn't want me to have an amnio full stop due to the risk involved and seeing the Consultant confirmed it for me. I wasn't happy with his attitude towards me, he seemed offended that I dared to ask him questions about his success rate etc and made some very negative comments about people with Down's. He even sent a nurse to try and terrify us by saying if we waited any longer to have an abortion they would have to kill the foetus in my womb before performing the abortion - errrmmm .... who said we were having an abortion?!?!
Anyway after that debacle we switched hospitals and the staff there have been fab. We were referred to Foetal Med and had our 20 week scan there, they thought they could see a hole in the heart, duodenal artresia (a blockage of the intestine), plus my amnio fluid levels were raised - all signs of Down's, and our risk was raised to 1 in 7. It didn't affect how we felt about having our baby, although the health issues were my biggest fear come to life. Our baby having Down's or a learning disability doesn't bother me, it's the worry about the associated health issues.
So we got referred for another scan at 24 weeks (3D) and they couldn't see any of the indicators they had seen on the 20 week scan. They said baby was obviously bigger so it was easier to see the organs etc and everything looked fine - our risk factor went back to 1 in 31.
We had another scan at 32 weeks and again everything looked fine with baby. We are still high risk for Down's and we won't know anything for certain until the big day and s/he is born but I don't really think about it. It is hard to believe after the blood tests when it was all I could think about and I'd lie awake worrying about our baby needing surgery etc, but as my dad said, no one is guaranteed a healthy baby / child regardless of all the scans and testing they can do. Now it doesn't enter my head for weeks at a time, unless we have a hospital appointment, but I don't worry about it. I'm sure nearer our due date it will play on the back of my mind a bit, but our baby will be perfect for us, because that is how we made him/her.Mimi_Arc_en_ciel wrote: »I'm fed up - I REALLY can not wait for flump to come out. Oh Mimi I am so with you there!! OH asked me today if I was sick of being pregnant now? I nearly answered I was sick of being pregnant when MS kicked in at 7 weeks! I am fed up of my under the bump jeans and combats constantly falling down every 5 seconds, I wish I'd bought over the bumpI'm sick of getting tired after doing very little
I'm sick of not being able to turn over in bed or get out of bed without assistance
I'm sick of having heartburn or indigestion
I'm sick of my pelvis/back/hips hurting
AND I've just watched a perineal massage vid on youtube and realised I have to start doing that now :eek::eek: I really don't think I am going to be able to reach without injuring myself or baby, and I think it will be just a step to far to ask OH to do it!
......... BUT I am so glad I'm having a baby and can't wait for the big day0 -

so 5 should be plenty. thinking 2 nursing bras in a 38H, and 3 in a 38HH or a 40G or H. want to get them now so that i have them as went shopping at metro centre hell this morning and point blank refuse to go back till next february at the earliest as it was manic today, and where i live isnt very good for clothes shopping in general.0 -
Evening all,
Not read back again, it's too many posts! Will try and find the list somewhere to see if there are any new babies.
Been for a scan today to check on growth (31 weeks) and all looked good, measuring about the middle of all the charts so that's good news. We got to see her little face, which was amazing, and they gave us a picture of it as well. I know it's crazy because you can't see all that much on a scan but I think she has my nose! (We both hope so as DH would also prefer her to have my dinky one:rotfl:)
Also got home to more work having been done on refitting the entire bathroom, and thank god the toilet is back in place. Last night got home from work and nothing there but a chemical toilet in the corner - and one designed to go in a camper so about 1ft off the ground. Had to position it so I could use the bath and door frame to get myself back up again!
Hope everyone is doing okay. Bump feels really heavy now and I hate to think about what it's going to be like in a few more weeks... still, it'll be closer to meeting her for the first time.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls
