Thank you. I have the light one too and trying to work out RDA etc and getting into a tiz x

I had to limit myself on the hot chocs because of the caffeine that choccy contains! Combined with my tea consumption it wasnt good.

Theres Vitamin A in milk and i drink around 2 pints a day and my midwife wasnt in the slightest bit worried by it.

hi lucy, i was in a panic about Ovaltine (similar to Horlicks) after i read it has vit A in it. but theres reassurance on their website and they actually recommend it for mums to be due to the folic acid and iron in it.

It says something about the vit a in everyday foods being ok but the vit a in things like liver is off the scale. maybe check out Ovaltines website, i drink a mug of it every night now to help me sleep and pips doing just fine :) HTH xx

Thanks again. Feeling a bit better now. I guess if there was a risk to preg women,Horlicks would be on the list of things to avoid along with pate and liver. Going to compare ovaltine to see if that has less vit a x

I actually haven't really cut out any foods for the pregnancy. I've cut way down on caffeine, and never really drink energy drinks. The only things I'm being fairly stringent about avoiding are raw and rare meats, soft cheeses, alcohol and untreated honey from the comb.
Which is why as soon as I give birth, I want a Corona, with a very rare steak..... :)

Lucy - I'd agree with sammy, you will naturally take vit A whilst pregnant. It's supplementing it that you don't want to do.

Did a quick net search and plenty women drink it in pregnancy. It also suggests the problem with vitamin a is it could harm baby in the 'early development weeks' which you're now well past so I wouldn't be concerned at all. Think of all the women out there that eat all the wrong things and none of the healthy stuff and have prefectly healthy babies :)

Horlicks can be enjoyed during pregnancy - about once a day as part of a well-balanced diet is fine. However, Horlicks does contain vitamin A which some women choose to monitor over the course of their pregnancy.
In the unlikely event that you suffer any ill effects from consuming Horlicks, then we recommend that you discontinue use immediately and consult your GP or obstetrician who will be able to advise you further.

They recommend one a day, so it isn't totally forbidden. I shouldn't think you've done anything terrible, but maybe mention it to the midwife next time you're there, and see what she thinks? Might have a cup tonight myself actually, feels like I haven't slept in forever, I've started walking into doorhandles cos I'm too tired to judge distances! :D
  • Hi ladies!

Having a great day today! Finally cut my days at work, so I have a 1day a week at home without DS & OH took him to school so I didn't wake up until nearly 12!!

I've won 2 sets of baby clothes on Ebay, not too keen on 2nd hand clothes normally but worth having back up so I don't have to do washing! (Don't mind stuff from people I know, just bit paranoid about strangers!!)

Picking DS up in a min, then big food shop hopefully followed by McDonalds! PERFECT DAY! :)

Still, things can only get better. Xxxx

Ravenlady - congrats on team pink !! :)

MIL back at home now, not quite sure that everything was done though but she was v.uncomfortable during procedure so hope that she does not have to go back, as usual oh not really sure whats gone on!! she is 78 after all so we are never quite sure if what she says is correct either and plus with being pumped full of sedative does not help, bless her, glad she is home though :)
