Baby girl due September 20130 -
Oh joy of joys, text message from school to say it's closed due to no water! That's my day of not doing a lot out of the window. I've got a docs appt, then we're off to town for a cake and a trip to the library. Have told DS that I need at least half an hour to have a nap later, not quite the same as the 2 hours I was hoping to have but hey ho, it'll have to do!Little lady arrived 13/12/110

Jen - call HR NOW
Then Pm SarlEl on MSE and hopefully they can offer you some great legal advise (They're on the employment board usually!)
I'd tell HR you DO NOT want to have to deal with the manager xx0 -
Hi ladies, lovely weather eh? Is it wrong to feel smug knowing that Sydney is suffering from a chilly spell
?
I was in hiding yesterday as I felt grotty about myself. I didn't eat properly all day and instead snacked on the various bad things, and to repent I feel I must confess what I had... 2 x weetabix, 3 x chocolate club bars, 2 smallish jam doughnuts, 1 scone with jam and butter, 2 handfuls of Caramel Nibbles, 1 x handful of salted peanuts, 1 x tesco fresh fruit cocktail, 1/2 a pizza and a bit of salad for dinner. I barely drank any water either, so ashamed of myself and the talk of GD is appropriate as I'm now paranoid that I'm going to get it or just that my poor baby isn't getting what it needs. My first set of UK bloods is tomorrow so am hoping they are all ok... At my MW appt last week she said I was measuring 26 weeks instead of 28, but didn't seem concerned... We move into our own place this coming weekend (finally) so I think being there will allow me to get into a better healthy routine.
Jenjade - sorry to hear about your work sitch. I have a nasty boss too so can fully sympathise. I don't understand these people who seem to get off on making other people around them unhappy. No one relishes going to work, so why not just make it as pleasant as poss for everyone? She must be a miserable/sad/lonely woman. I work in a specialised part of HR so don't know how to advise properly, but I'd say keep in contact with your HR woman, there are some good HR peeps out there, honest.
Gilly - hugs to you hun, even though it sounds like they are just following protocol rather than actually suspecting something's wrong.
Emily - we're hoping to use reusables. I'm a bit reluctant to tell people this though as their opinions/reactions irritate me (you wait/what a faff/bet it doesn't last). There was a big thread on here not long ago about reusables, so I'll try to dig it out... I need to do my research and figure out our plan of attack. I'll keep you posted.
Lirin - I keep having those kinds of panics too! Baring in mind we're still living with parents, and have bought ZILCH for this poor neglected child yet... And I also keep forgetting that there will actually be a baby, our baby, at the "end"!
Toniq - could you see a chiropractor? I've just been to one and am awaiting the findings report, but he said I'm a bit wonky, so I plan to get this sorted asap so that as I get bigger/heavier/closer to the birth I'm in good shape for it all. Hope you get well soon.
Sorry if I've missed people out - you are a right chatty bunch at the mo! Labour vibes to those who want/need them, and hugs to those feeling blue.
Laters ladies, BMx

Jenjade the way they spoke to you was awful... definitely call and say that you won't be spoken to like that and also to HR that she was mean to you because you complained about your form not being sent.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

can you tell me a bit more about gestational diabetes please. I have been tested and am borderline. so they are going to monitor me but i think i will flip over the wrong side of the boarder at some point. what do you have to do? what problems does or can it cause?
Thanks- was going to google it but i have learnt that google is not always the best idea
Hi jenjade, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes 8 weeks ago (I'm now 33+3 weeks). There really is nothing to worry about. At the hospital I go to I was given a blood testing kit and spoke to a dietitian who told me about what foods I should be eating to keep my blood sugar levels safe. I have to test my blood 4 times a day. Once before breakfast and then 1 hour after every meal. My blood sugar level should be below 5.5 before breakfast and then below 7.5 after meals. For the first few weeks I was doing well and kept my blood sugar within the safe ranges just by diet and a little exercise, but then my levels started creeping up even though I was eating the correct foods. The doctor told me that as I get further on in pregnancy it is harder for me to deal with myself so I have been put on Metformin tablets. I have been taking them for a week now and they seem to be working.
The risk when you have gestational diabetes is that because your body can't deal with the sugar in the blood, it passes through the placenta to the baby. The baby then stores it as fat which is why there is a risk of having a large baby.
Along with seeing the diabetes specialist and the dietician every 2 weeks, I have a growth scan every 4 weeks and see an obstetrician so they can keep an eye on the size of the baby. I had my last one last Thursday and the baby is in the normal size range for my time of pregnancy.
I was told that typically when you have gestational diabetes that they will induce at 38 weeks rather than waiting for full term. They will also induce if it looks like the baby will weigh 9.5lbs. There is also more chance of having a C-Section if the baby is too big as there is a risk of injury to the shoulder if you go through a natural birth.
As I said before, there really is nothing to worry about. As long as you look after yourself and follow the advice from the doctors, then you and the baby should be fine.
I hope this helps and if you have any more questions I'll try and answer them as best I can.0 -
Jenjade that woman is a witch!!! I hope she gets her comeuppance if ever she gets pregnant. People just can't understand what it is like until they go through it!
Well today's the day people! I have my growth scan and consultant appointment this afternoon. I've hardly slept with thinking about it.Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0 -
