  • Can I ask your opinion on a name that I've just come accross? I really like it, but not sure if it fits the child/teenager/adult thing we were talking about the other day! The name is Finn...

I know one Finn, and only ever knew him as an adult and the name was never an issue. Thoroughly top bloke, and quite dishy too! I quite like it!

  • My OH works with a Finlay so you could always lengthen it if you are worried but don't think it is a name that will sound odd in adulthood.

Finn always reminds me of an artist I met in Kerry- he lived in a remote gorgeous cottage miles from anywhere and just used to walk on the beach with his dog, and paint, selling them on to the tourists.... :)
  • One thing I would mention which OH work colleague gets is that FINLAY goes very well with the Mickey Mouse song so depending on your surname it could become a song. I know poor Finlay at OH' work has a surname which fits perfectly. I am sure there are plenty of other names which go with this song but this is how I remember him.

Mirrorimage I had my son in a different city to where I was living. The hospital was about a 25 minute drive away.
I was booked at Birmingham Women's while I was living in Birmingham, as I had had awful experiences with both of my local hospitals (Selly Oak had made me walk 4km home during a miscarriage, as they 'couldn't be bothered' to get patient transport after an ambulance had to take me there as my local one was full. My local one, City Hospital, had told me that I wasn't having a miscarriage as they 'thought it's what I wanted to hear'!)
When I was about 12w, I moved 20 miles away to Wolverhampton, and had a lot of pressure put on me by my midwife to transfer to the hospital there, but having heard some awful stories (a week before I had DS, a midwife cut a baby's finger off with the umbilical cord!) I refused and remained booked in Birmingham Women's, as BW has one of the best reputations and it's purely a women's hospital.
When I actually did deliver, the Midwives didn't listen to me, and so I was left needing to push for an hour before anyone paid attention, I was put in a side ward that was packed, when there was an empty side ward next door, and I was generally treated like an idiot.
A day after bringing DS home he was re-admitted with jaundice (which apparently BW should have noticed but didn't) but BW wouldn't have us back, so I had to go to W'hampton hospital.
I was given a private room with DS, the midwives were lovely and helpful, and sorted out some BF issues that BW hadn't noticed. I couldn't fault them.
So really, if you want to move hospitals you can, but you can never guarantee what the care will be like either way.
I hope you manage to work something out that works for you though! When you're giving birth you don't want to be worrying! X

I really liked Finn, Winnie, it didn't go with the second name for us though!

  • Finley was the name we were going to use if we were gaving a boy. inevitibly it would've been shortened to Finn. Lovely name.
