Oh I doubt very much I'll queue jump! Knowing my luck, I'll keep contracting for the next fortnight with no other sign of a baby! :rotfl:
I hope your midwife can help you on the going out of area question. I know most of the hospitals that have really bad ratings are bad simply because its the only hospital in the area so they get all the good and the bad cases, but its still a worry. How far away would your next alternative hospital be?0 -
probably the basildon or southend hospital which either way would roughly be around 40 mins drive i suppose rather than the ten mins to my one, we do have another one here but like i said they wont take me becuase they are a low risk unit. im sure it will work out fine, im planning to have just gas and air hopefully like i did with my youngest so will know whats going on, and have warned hubby he has to know the ins and outs of what they are doing and to listen to me properly whenim talking to him (lol sounds like he is a child he isnt but he i s a great believer in doctors and nurses know what they are doing and leave them to it) im also planning on having my mum there this time just for extra support so im not as worriednow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0

What factor have you got that makes you high risk? Just wondering if its nothing too serious maybe you could negotiate with them and go to the midwife unit?0

Had a show around the hospital last Thursday and all looked ok apart from the post natal ward where they have 31 women plus babies for 3 midwives which sounds like a lot, especially when we know there will be at least one set of twins out them (so over 20 patients per midwife)
Since being there we have looked at the feedback etc, and the labour ward seems to be fine with just general niggles however the post natal ward has hundreds of complaints about women left screaming in pain all night. Some were left overnight in thier own blood when they were forgot about so weren't stitched up.
One lady was buzzing for help and calling the midwife along with the other women in the room with her because a cloth had fallen over her childs head and she couldn't move due to a c-section. No one came and the woman made it over to her baby but in the process ripped her stitches.
This does not sound like a place that I want to go. However all the other hospitals in the area have very similar feedback. Just hoping that we can be in and out as quickly as possible and to be a prepared as we can.
Sorry for the long rant.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

Blimey Kitten Pie that sounds awful! On the PN ward here they try to give ladies with multiple births a private room - is that an option at your hospital? I'm just thinking if its a private room they might let OH stay with you?0

Hi all. I haven't been on here for a while. Hope you're all ok. Good luck Winnie, sounds like it's all happening for you.
I'm on Mat leave now which is a good job and SPD is a pain in the a**.
Someone was talking about reusuables. We've got the Bambino Mio birth to potty set. Taking disposables into hospital though. I really hope they work out for us and they weren't cheap.0 -

In area, out of area, it makes no difference. Under the NHS patient choices you theoretically have the right to choose exactly which hospital you deliver at. I live in a totally different county to the hospital i am at- its not even the adjacent county! I refused the nearest 3 to me, and asked to be referred to the one i am at.
It has made all the difference to me being at a hospital i feel confident and comfortable with, esp being a high risk PG too.
If you are seriously worried (and the worry isnt good for you anyway!), then have a look to see what your closest out of area options are, and where you would prefer. Take into account your previous births as a guide to length of labour, as you probably wont want a long drive if you have a history of shortish labours!
I would suggest you have a look at the hospital website, as some say if they take antenatal referrals directly from you, some require midwife/GP referral. Ask to be referred there for delivery. See what they say, you DO have the right to ask.
It MAY be the case they say they are oversubscribed and cant take you. Then you have a choice. In theory if you turn up there in labour anyway, they cant turn you away just for not being on their lists- but if they are full already at that moment in time, they COULD send you elsewhere. I've heard it suggested that if you MIGHT be delivering somewhere different than your antenatal care, its a good idea to photocopy your notes and keep the copy with you, as some hospitals/midwives seem to take the notes off you towards the end of your care and keep them at the unit...Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

I did ask and was told that they have a couple of private rooms which they obviously can't guarantee however they will charge for these (fine) but oh would have to leave at 8pm anyway and if I have a c-section which at the moment is likely then I wouldt be able to have a private room.
My sil went there when she had her son and thinks it had a large impact on her post-natel depression so just hoping that if I expect the worse then at least it won't be so much of a shock and won't cause the same impact.
Either that or I hang around other areas which better reputations in the hope that I start naturally.
There is just so much to worry about at the moment that I am just trying to take everything in my stride and not let it get on top of me. Just trying to remind myself that there are people out there who have it alot worse and I get to go on maternity leave on Friday!!:j:j
Technically holiday before maternity leave but still.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500
