LOL at the name thing. DH and I have both refused to tell anyone our names, as all being quite opinionated, none of the family would feel they had to hold back from their opinions, so its going to be a fait accompli.. I suspect we will still get a few comments, like, " why xxxxxx" or " isnt that a bit yyyyyyy", or "do you think it would sound better if zzzzzzzz " but thats a bit tough really!

Our thinking too - it's our decision but if we present them with the baby and say 'this is X' they will have to deal, and will be too distracted cooing with any luck to complain about it.

We have been saying though that the reason is to decide if she looks like the name once she is born. I really hope so, as we don't have a back-up :rotfl:. My betting is the first name will be fine with them but middle name not so much!

Me and DH call bump crabapple and have done from early on before we knew she was a she. Everyone knows this, but my mum and his (not the step-mother being awkward this time) refuse to use it and call her apple blossom instead. To the point that his mother has told DH off for using the name they don't like - it's a bump for goodness sake, not like we were going to keep the name after she is born! (The bump names are a bit odd, but our surname is apple related so it makes sense!)

Kurt wouldn't have been able to cope in the theatre IMO - can you imagine how he would have reacted when the consultant had to get the forceps out and then when the baby didn't breathe or cry immediately! Doesn't bear thinking about!!

Definitely agree, much better that she took her mum in with her instead!

Exactly. Our decision, like it or not. My PIL were worried we were choosing "family" names and that it would not be done fairly (i.e using names from both families).. Huh. Tough if it wasnt! If the scans are wrong and it is a boy, then the names will very much be family, and my side (in memory of my grandpa and my cousin who died last year). SIL was worried it would be something too modern. And my mum and sister... lord knows, but they wouldnt hold back. My mum being the woman who said on my hen night, 2 weeks before my wedding having shown no interest in my hair style till then, "What?? You are having your hair up?? It would be soooo much nicer down". My Dad, bless him, is probably the only one capable of biting his tongue and just smiling, but my step mum (as you may guess), isnt exactly brimming with tact (although she has a heart of gold really)/

Of course, there is the chance bean wont look like the name we have chosen, but we have a back up girls name plan so guess that will be fine.

Congrats cloudberry, labour vibes to all boldies xxx

Any tips for a decent swaddling blanket? also if we are using an angel care monitor with mat, will I be able to use a mobile on crib? xxxxx

Not with the motion sensor, presumably the vibrations of the mobile stop it sensing baby movement?

Is wanting to slap someone an imminent labour sign, or just a sign they're being annoying?!

Our bump name is Eric, for some reason we have decided baby is a boy and he was conceived around the time my OH lost his Gran whose husband was Eric.

I have just booked our 4D scan for 23rd January, cant wait!! Also, have got a nice 5% raise at work which I wasn't expecting :0)

Gilly, we are struggling to find a mobile we like, I might go for one that projects images rather than dangling toys.

So ladies, where can a get a dress for a fancy evening do? I'll be massive by then but i cant seem to find anything anywhere. I'm already sad that i'll probably wont be able to wear heels so can't imagine that i'd even feel dressed up.

    Any suggestions anywhere?

Also what mobiles did people buy? We're considering buying one for our crib, but it'l obviously have to be small, and not too heavy as it's for the crib. Some of them are huge machines

We actually have 2..... (oops). The one we chose and bought is this fisher price peek a boo rainforest mobile (incidentally, v good price on tesco at the moment!)

But we also have one that matches the Zanzibar bedding set we chose, which we got included in a bedding bundle.
