Egg to Barclaycard Transition Update
Comments

Sillychuckie, I was just charged a month's interest despite my account being paid in full. Was advised today by customer services that it's because I received a refund from a retailer in late September. Whereas Egg credited refunds straight away, it is Barclaycard "policy" to only refund credits in the following statement - ie. at least a month after the credit. This meant they considered my statement hadn't in fact been paid in full - so charged a month's interest. Good luck with your credit.
Thanks. I spoke with Barclays 'merchant services' team.
They see on their systems the refund transaction onto my card, but for whatever reason (they aren't sure), they don't see the refund applied to my actual statement.
They didn't mention anything about the '1 month later' thing that you said. They actually impled it seemed to be a system problem relating to the Egg->Barclays transfer.
Annoyingly, they still can't resolve the issue for me without posting me a form which I need to fill in, return, and provide a receipt photo copy. Such a load of hassle, when they can see for themselves the transaction is on the system.
Anyway - I'm waiting for this form of theirs... (7-10 working days)!

My card got declined at a petrol pump this morning (twice). PIN was ok, but said card declined.
It was a bit of a pain as I ride a motorbike and carry very little in my pockets so didn't have a spare card. It wiped me out in cash.
The card is find on paypal and shops.
I rang Barclaycard and they said there is no issue.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Of course I'll be carrying 2 cards in future as I don't now trust this, but I automatically minimise my possessions when on a bike.
Snuggles had a similar problem. The switchover has gone fairly smoothly for me, the only problem I've encountered so far is that my card won't work for paying at the petrol pump, it just comes up with a message saying "kiosk only". This is very irritating (although a minor problem compared to some) and I hope it's not going to be a permanent issue. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Barclays have caused me loads of agro. The letter said I could activate the card in any ATM but after 2 failed attempts at A&L I went to my local Barclays which ate the card! When I rang up for a new card and pin the Indian call centre seemed to have trouble understanding what I wanted and which card I needed. It was a week before they arrived and I haven't tried to activate it yet. In the mean time they sent me emails telling me off for using the egg card then deactivated it.
A few weeks ago I made an online order with several items and paid with egg. They split the order but only took payment for the items they sent. Now I get an email saying the rest of the order is ready but they've cancelled it because payment was declined. :mad:0 -
I emailed them last weekend to cancel my card ... they replied on Monday that my request had been passed to the relevant department ... still waiting, but with a zero balance I don't really care anymore0

If you care about your credit rating or want credit in future then I'd make sure it gets cancellled.
An open account MAY have a negative effect on your credit score (could also have a positive effect as well, depends on circs).
But what I'm saying is that it WILL affect you so you need to make sure it's done.0 -
I have been charged £1 on my first B'card statement.
I have queried this & been told it's a monthly charge on all new accounts opened after 2009 with Egg. My Egg account was open long before this.
Has anyone else had this charge?0 -

There certainly was a charge for Egg money at some point.
Do you ever check your credit reports?
The date should be on there.
Sounds like a mistake in your case.0 -

Thanks lisyloo, hadn't thought of that tbh, I'll give them until the end of the week and then chase them up.0 -

This happened to me this evening at a Esso self service pump - the machine said the PIN was ok but it then declined the transaction.
So I used a different card instead of going into the shop.
I wonder if some stores still need to update their BIN ranges for these cards - I assume Barclaycard are using new ones for ex-Egg holders.

I've been experimenting with my new Barclaycard - partly as its my first one I've used with contactless technology in it.
Has anyone else noticed that the Barclaycard website seems to misreport many contactless transactions as 'PIN Used: Signature used' instead? That's what happens to my Tesco transactions.
The Pret A Manger ones properly report 'PIN Used: Contactless'
Anyone else?
Its also a shame that they don't give any details for 'Pending transactions' - Capital One are great at this.
