It isn't just children, I know someone who was in a hit and run accident a few years back and he was at the side of the road in broad daylight with a broken leg and about 5 cars passed him by without even slowing down. What a society!
I will always try to help if I believe someone needs it although I would not touch a child in any way unless they were in immediate danger. It can be difficult, I used to work at a zoo where children often get lost- but also there is some truth the belief that people with an unhealthy interest in children might be at zoos, funfares etc so although I couldn't risk touching them I'd have to follow them around and keep an eye on them- quite annoying when it is a really horrible kid throwing stones at the animals and calling us staff members see-you-next-tuesdays! :mad:0 -

The 1990s were within the last 20 years, but you are correct with the likes of Millie Dowler and others that we have forgotten make it more than one. But it happened well into the past too - look up the story of Sweet Fanny Adams, but not while you are eating.
About 4 years ago I was out for a lunchtime jog and was just going over the tram tracks when I passed a young boy (3-4yo) by himself. Nobody was around and I didn't have a mobile so I ended up walking with him for so far (he was walking with a purpose) and then he just burst into tears. I got him into a nearby factory and they rang the police and he was quickly reunited with his dad (who did thank me!).
Turns out he had wandered off from a shopping centre and his parents had the police out with helicopters by the time I'd found him. Sometimes you have to help out, but it would have been so easy not to get involved.
The thing is, if you'd be spotted by a helicopter or a policeman you'd have been in the station explaining that you'd hadn't just nabbed him.0 -
People dont stop to help anymore because of the injured people and/or their families themselves.
There was a nurse at our hospital who had stopped to help a man who had collapsed. She did what she could but he later died. She was then sued for making matters worse by the family, so all nurses were banned from helping out on the streets.
There have also been numerous examples of injured people sueing those who helped them.
Anyone who stops to help someone out these days must be aware that a lawsuit could land on your doorstop. You help a Mum with a pram up some steps. What happens if you trip and they fall? You help an old lady over the road and she falls. Will you be blamed?
It is sad to see society act this way but we have to remember, it was the injured who got greedy in the first place.0 -
