busy day yesterday, money a bit tight, isn't it always?

So yesterday was blitz the house day - mainly because I refuse to clutter it up with tree until its sorted. My newly decorated dining room is looking good, all Mum's china is back in the cabinet (as we can't decide what to do with it) some stuff ready to go into loft.
    Spends yesterday
    £9.45 - Tesco
    £5.73 - butchers
    £2.20 - greengrocers

Still working our way through the freezer, so shouldn't need any more food.
Really need to post some Christmas cards, mainly to the aunties. Normally I just give the cards to Mum and she sends them in a big bundle, or gives them out when they meet. But obviously this year is different.....

Buying Christmas tree today, its not very MSE to buy a new tree every year, but I LOVE the real tree, and don't have space to keep one in a tub in the garden.

Its those "little" differences that must hit you constantly, Gill, hope you'll enjoy buying the tree and decorating it.

And its nice to have the house sorted (especially before you put the tree up, yes!).

I love that saying you put into your sig ... says it all, really, I guess what I was just burbling about on my thread is about that.

  • I just redeemed some survey points, £15 winging its way to my paypal account. Fresh start for next year. Even if I only do one or two surveys a week, its an extra couple of quid.

Which one do you do, Gill? Must get going on that, now that I'm bringing the lappie downstairs of an evening.

  • Enjoy your tree Gill we have a real one too my Christmas extravagance.

Enjoy your Christmas although inevitably in the circumstances it will be different.

    Hugs

  • Have deliberately avoided switching the laptop on over Christmas so I wouldn't be tempted to spend ages on it.

Christmas Day was a lovely relaxing 'adult' day;friend and her OH came for dinner, everybody mucked in and did a bit. Meal went down well. Friend doesn't normally have a traditional Christmas dinner, and it is all the trimmings that make it special.
I wish I had the confidence to leave the turkey buying until Christmas Eve, as could have got one for under a tenner!
Have picked up some bargain veg in little Asda, lettuce for 5p, bag of carrots/cauli/broccoli for 10p, potatoes 5kg bag for 63p. Also got some sausages and a couple of quiches which have gone in the freezer. So thats the start of some easy food for New Year.

Was bought some beeswax strips as a present, but all the instructions are in German, so will have to check those out (I think Kirstie did something with beeswax)

Today we are braving the town centre as DS wants a new phone. His is out of contract, so if we get the code off them he can sell it and get some cash. He is starting a couple of courses in January so hopefully one of them will lead to a job, and he has some DJ gigs lined up.

It does however feel really odd to be off over Christmas and getting paid for it!

Ooh gilli, being off work and getting paid for it - lucky you! :j

Glad you had a nice Christmas and well done on the bargain food. I really need to get organised with my meal planning/food budget but am so lazy. :o

Did DS get a new phone?
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.
  • Finally braved the town centre, it wasn't much busier than a normal Saturday. DS upgraded to the latest iphone; he has cut his contract back, and got the phone for free. He could have cut the contract back by another £10 a month and paid £150 for the phone which would actually have worked out cheaper in the long run but he hasn't got the money to pay for the phone. He has checked and he can get £100 for his existing phone on envirofone, or a friend has offered to buy it off him, which would be easier.

I think working away has made me be more organised, as DS will cook for himself but won't 'make' food.

Off to M&S in a bit to get food for New Year.
