It's weird really as most people think I should be so proud of her (which I am) but I'm prouder still of my son. He's progressed so much that most people (unless they are trained professionals) don't even realise he has AS. He's a silver student in a main stream school (was gold last term) is able to empathise with people, sticks up for people smaller than him (he's 5'7" and 13 so there's lots of them) and over the last couple of months has even started to hug me without any prompting. He works out how to get the most for his money. He's just an all round wonderful kid that I love so much. We've had our problems with him in the past, some very serious but it looks like it's going well now.

Moggins I am in awe of you. You have every right to be SOOOO proud of your children. What an amazing family.

I wasn't meaning that, just stating that I don't think it's a problem, everyone has their own way. Maths is a 24/7 thing with my oldest, he's great to take shopping as I try to remember my lists etc he adds it all up for me, has done since he was about 6 which helps distract him from the noises and smells he has an issue with. Youngest counts the smaller numbers putting the items in the trolley, and does simple division, addition and multiplication in the same way, can take this type of thing anywhere, on our walks out even, counting things, memory skills, decision making etc, all about making it fun then they barely realise they are learning. Bakings a great numeracy and literally one for the youngest of mine, he loves it being more creative so I write him simple recipes, in words more easier for him, change the ordering etc so he does sorting, get him to measure, and he helps with most of it.

:( On another note my fence has just blown over again, have put something else up to prop it up, it's wild out there, nearly got blown away (in my dressing gown :o )

Moggins that is brilliant, empathy is something children on the spectrum find so difficult as it doesn't come naturally, you've got every right to be proud.

dlb Now I am totally in awe of you and your family. DS2 sounds a very mature (and very lucky) young man. What a lovely family.

Not at all, taking on a child through adoption has always been something I have wanted to do, fostering also, but feel it would be unfair on them now I know my own children have difficulties. They take up a lot of my time and can be very difficult, don't think I could or should put another child into the situation. The process is so long and hard work I am always impressed by any one who gets thrugh the process and brings up an adopted child after seeing what a family member went through. I am pleased to hear he took it well being told, and I am sure from what you have posted in the past on the forum and how much the children matter to you the fact he's adopted makes no difference to him as a family member and he's just as important as anyone else.

dlb - I think it's wonderful that you felt you could tell everyone :D

Your son is more than lucky to have you as a parent, and you've every right to be proud of all your kids. They couldn't help but be a credit to you - they've had a great example for a role model in you :D

    Lot of *hugs*!
