oh dear, i go off and leave you for some enjoyable(?!) rave music and come back to find we're actually all one big happy family joined by the 6 degrees of seperation or whatever it is :rotfl:

Stupid chavmonster is still raving away, police don't want to know (apparently more pressing things going on in Sheffield City Centre on a friday night  )

i'm so tired but no chance of sleep with that racket... and i never sleep well when OH isn't here :(

dlb, just wanted to add that I think you're a fantastic mum, as you all are in fact. The things that you all cope with on a day-to-day basis make you fantastic parents who your kids rightly adore.

right that's enough of the sentimentality, i'm off to finish my bottle of wine :D
  • ........ Still (it is only my humble opinion, mind) there are far more children below the "average" level (for many different reasons) and it is society's job to make sure these children become productive members of society.

Depending on which average you use (mean, median, mode, etc) about half will be *below average* simply by definition.

The Government sets targets that it expects students to reach (level 4 at KS", 11 year olds) but in the primary school my children attended the school expected level 5 and many children were disappointed with a 4.

With respect to funding, I agree that Primary schools don't have much funding set purely for Gifted and Talented (G'n'T). However, once you're into secondary schooling, children who need extra help with literacy and numeracy usually get 1 hour every 2 weeks (as long as the peripatetic teacher comes in - if she's sick, there's no cover). Children on G'n'T get loads of cash thrown at them from NAGTY (Nat Assoc for Gifted and Talented Youth). They get to go away for weekends, and even weeks to study further and meet others on the programme. Great for them, and I'm not knocking it really, but those children, in the main, will succeed anyway. I just imagine what a child who's having specific difficulties with number or spelling, which could really hold them back, could do with that time and effort.
