I don't want an iPhone. Am I normal?

iPhone 4 (and probably 5) use microsims, the 3GS and earlier use standard sims. Everything else uses standard sims.
Android has Google maps, the browser includes Flash (provided you pick a handset with enough ooomph) which is missing on all iPhones. Texting ain't an issue. No idea about matched betting though (or even what it is lol).
Get what you want, not what your friends have.0 -
I just got a cheap android en ebay and it's great.. I love to be able to go out for the weekend and send pictures of my niece and nephew to my parents instantly! Also have access the apps I use everyday, ebay, email, maps, etc...
Very good apps too to check traffic before leaving home or the office, and also to locate my partner if he's driving back from work late for example... (personally I love this app as I tend to worry too much!).
Only downside to me are the batteries, they last 1/2 days max, my old Nokia (not smartphone..) used to last me for a week!0 -
Almost everything people "love" about the iPhone is just software; It's like saying your i-Mac is better than my Pc because it came with Photoshop & Quark Xpress pre-installed, or your Dell machine is worse than my home built system because it only has MS Works on it's "start me" disk whereas I installed Office..
Ease of use & an intuitive interface? Flash a different ROM & be done with it, or use one of the myriad plugins to bring that feature to your existing phone.
An in-built "maps" app? [/shudder]
Download a decent GPS proggie & use your internal GPS chip (you ought to be doing this anyway).
Matched betting, spread betting, heavy-petting (yes please), betting on the dogs with a flat-cap & fag in your mouth with a bloke called Honest-Bob?
Whatever thing it is that draws you to a particular phone, I can almost guarantee that somebody already ported it to the alternative platforms long before you ever heard of it, or your mates tried to show it off down the pub to make you jealous..
Software is almost infinitely flexible (even on the horribly locked-down range of i-toys, it's called "Jailbreak" for a reason), so almost no feature is exclusive to any phone, just as almost no program is exclusive to any computer.
Sorry, I just had ot get that off my chest - rant over, I promise.0 -
Most of my friends have got iPhones these days and so I'm thinking I ought to get one. But I just can't really bring myself to take the plunge. It seems to me that in favour of getting one:
1. They let you access the Internet while on the move.
2. They come with a streetmap so you don't need to carry a paper one.
3 They would enable me to do a few more matched betting offers than I do currently.
4. I could reply to text messages much more easily than with a basic phone.
Against it:
1. They're expensive.
2. You've really got to look after them. I bought my last mobile phone for £10 a year ago. I cracked the cover six months ago, and lost it a few days ago. I like being able to disrespect my mobile and wouldn't be able to do so if it cost £500. I know you can insure them but I would probably face high premiums after I lost the first one.
3. Do I really need the Internet on the move? If I'm with friends it would be rude to be browsing the Internet instead of talking to them. I have very little dead time on my own because I very seldom use public transport so there's no sitting on or queuing for the bus. I don't think they work on the Tube anyway do they? I did want to use the Internet in Norfolk the other day, so I borrowed an iPhone, but there was no reception, so that was pretty hopeless. Plus I've got a laptop I can take with me if I really need access away from home.
So I'm inclined to give them a miss. Or do you think that if I get one I'll start wondering how I ever lived without it?
You're perfectly normal and you ought to buy what works best for you.0 -

1 - so do 99% of other phones
2 - so do a lot of other phones and nobody carries paper maps anyway
3 - most other phones probably would
4 - why? do you have special powers that enable you to use a touch screen phone without wanting to smash the f*^King s*^t out of the useless piece of crap? because that's what i want to do every time i have the misfortune of using a touch screen phone.0 -

Quoted to emphasise thanks - And so true, I have a touchscreen & it's amazing how my texting has declined since I got it. :cool:0 -
get a cheap android phone - it does all the pro's you list, but is a quarter of the price and cheaper to insure if you choose to go high end.
iPhone is 98% marketing....there's cheaper, better products out there
Hate to say this but I agree 100%
Personally I have a HTC and I love it.0 -
I had the option of either a HTC Desire or iPhone when I upgraded my phone and I went for the HTC. I don't know why (read lots of reviews and was still 50/50 at the time of ordering) but I am more than happy with my choice and would pick HTC over Apple if I had the choice againSealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -

Only iPhones 4 use micro sim ATM, but this is not a problem as normal sims can be cut and there are adapters for micro sims.
Or just ask your network, as even on PAYG they'll happily provide you with a micro SIM, and the iPhone comes with an adapter so you don't really need to get a full size SIM again in the future.Cash-Strapped.T32 wrote: »Quoted to emphasise thanks - And so true, I have a touchscreen & it's amazing how my texting has declined since I got it.
Oh, my texting has declined since the 3310. I moved to Sony Ericsson soon after, and the K800i I just didn't get on with (for texting; everything else was brilliant!), the M600 and P1i's QWERTY keyboards worked well, but still not even half the speed I was up to on the 3310, Nokia N95 just didn't feel right (but loved the phone), and N97 slowed me down more than anything before. So on reflection, my iPhone's touch-screen QWERTY with predictive text (of a sort) and Auto Correct (in a manner of speaking) is actually not bad at all. I get along with it pretty well, I find it reasonably speedy (somewhere between the 3310 and P1i) and fairly accurate.
OP: you're absolutely normal. Sounds to me like any phone would suit you just fine, but a cheap Android is likely the best option for you if you do want to use internet and get your betting on your phone. I like my iPhone, and probably wouldn't change, but it is overpriced so you do pay for it.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
I even went to the extent of ordering an iPhone 4. Then I came to my senses and stayed with Blackberry. It does what I want it to do so I'm happy with it.
As other posters have said most phones do what the iPhone does if not better. If your mates with the iPhones start taking the proverbial just ask them to do the following, take the battery out and show you the memory card.0
