Mine did same. If you wait a month and fund with £1000 you might get a yes. I did that on my original account, it said (old system) my guaranteed limit was £0 but after my reward payment the next month it said my guaranteed limit was £100.
Obviously that system is dead now but maybe the same princaple is aplied to get a overdraft. Where is the my offers page now? Is it on Halifax or bos site? I can't find it on either site?
Also were you searched for loan and was it instant or guaranteed or did you have to wait a day for decision? Could you please talk us through process. It might help other.
Thanks.
Hi and thanks for info! regarding the loan, it was to pay off Vanquis:eek: I rang and asked did I have anything pre-approved and they said no, not at this time. So they put me through to their loans dept. I went through a full application all things I owed, what the loan was for, did I have an Halifax credit card, savings.
I was then told a check would be performed, I waited about 30 seconds and he said it was accepted.
He then said for £70 a courier could bring the forms to sign,so I'd get the money faster, this I said no, wait for the post to sign to form.
Sent it back in a first class pre-printed envelope to a Chester address, and was very surprised the money was in, in 2 days. Oh and they checked me with Experian, no other agency.0 -
Can you log in to Lloyds using Halifax bos login or not? Anyone knows?
Thanks0 -
Aren't they one and the same?? It definitely used to be a Halifax branch, can't say I noticed what it was the other day!
I did open up a Halifax children's regular saver in the same branch just the other week, and when you check on Halifax's website for branch finder, it's this one that shows up (but also the same one on BoS's website too).
Are they definitely stopping the reward current account? Should I try and apply again online for it?
Seems to have been a big change recently. Halifax seem to have disowned Scotland!
We are in Glasgow, when Halifax and BOS became HBOS, our local Halifax agency shut and the full former BOS branch took over everything and displayed the HBOS logo. Another local BOS branch operated similarly, and there were also several full Halifax banches within easy reach that became HBOS.
We have had Halifax current accounts since 2003, and now have a mix of both Halifax and BOS current and savings accounts. I like to operate on-line as far as possible, but some accounts can only be opened in branch.
We have Childrens Regular Savers for our 2 grandchildren, mine are the old type that roll over every year, but OH only opened his last year, so he has the one where you need to open a new one each year.
Next week the year on his ones is up and he got a letter telling him what would happen. I checked last night to see if he would be able to open new ones on-line, but clicking "apply now" took me to a screen where it said "click here to find your nearest branch", so I deduced he would have to go to a branch.
As I was out today, I went into our branch to ask if he would need an appointment. The answer was "yes" and one was duly arranged. I then asked for confirmation that they would not need to see the birth certificates AGAIN, so the girl went to check.
When she returned she said....."just as well I went to check, I have found out something I didn't know, we cannot open this account in the branch"
"Erm......how is my husband supposed to open it then?" I asked "since on the website it implies he needs to go to a branch"
She then gave me a number to ring to ask them, which is just the usual savings number.
"This is a BOS branch now" she said, "so we can no longer open any Halifax accounts" "Are you not all the same people, HBOS?" I asked. "What am I supposed to do if I have a problem with any of my Halifax accounts?"
"No problem, you can still operate your accounts here, you just cannot open any Halifax branded ones here. Your nearest Halifax branch is now in Carlisle"
"So do you have a childrens regular saver he can open?"
"No, sorry"
So BOS are not encouraging people to save for their children it seems, nor have they got the message through to all their branch staff that they are no longer opening Halifax accounts.
I haven't tried ringing the number yet to find out whether he can open the new accounts over the phone.
How is this progress?

Equally, Bank of Scotland Young Saver can only be opened in a Bank of Scotland branch. The 3% rate is half decent, so could be used for regular savings. I don't think it can be opened by a grandparent though. How is this progress?0 -
That must be discrimination!!
The childrens regular saver pays 6%, so putting money monthly into a 3% account just does not compare.
It is important to us to save monthly for them, as this is "out of income", which is allowed for IHT purposes. We each put £50 per month away for each of them, so £1200 from each of us. If we were just to give them the £1200 each into an account at the start of the year, they would get the same interest, but this would have to come out of our £3000 each annual gift allowance for IHT purposes.
When you get to your late 60's you need to think about things like that!!0 -
I have 3 x Bank of Scotland Classic Vantage accounts and 1 x Halifax Reward
One was a Bank of Scotland Reward upgraded to Classic Vantage the other week and Halifax Reward upgraded from Current Account. The other two I opened a couple of weeks ago in branch.
I have a £1000 overdraft on both the older accounts. I have applied online for £50 overdraft on the two new accounts and was declined. I applied to upgrade my two older accounts to £1500 overdraft and both were approved online.
When I click to upgrade the older account to Added value account I can upgrade to any accounts up to Premier. When I click to upgrade the two new accounts I am told I have the highest available account.
It seems I have CPD against the two new accounts and not against the older accounts??
Any ideas?0 -

I would ask in a branch.
Are you able to view the BOS and Halifax accounts via the same log in? Others on here have said they are viewed from the same log in but the HBOS helpline are adamant it cannot be done. I am more inclined to believe MSE posters.
I have opened the accounts but now waiting for the log in details.God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -

We have a BOS account and a Halifax account and they can both be viewed by the same log in.
Halifax staff are talking rubbish if they say that can not be, but that is something that seems to be happening much more often now they are all the same group."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
