Thanks auto-man yes I have just the one cheque book, I've read because it's seen as a credit product. But surely now the cheque guarantee system has finished it can't be that risky. No funds in your account they would just bounce the cheque!
I agree but it's something they seem to do anyway so if a simple letter resolves it brill.

I will maybe write and try and get a second book cos I still use a lot of cheques on school trips (for kids) and the likes.

Oh update with the result! I use a few cheques too I pay my daughters rent every week by cheque plus my own stuff. I'm a bit old fashioned I think!

  • I've never seen one of these offers....how can I change that ?

I understand that because I've had my account for so long ( 18 yrs ) that it doesn't show up on credit files....my account used to be called MAXIM..

    Any help much appreciated

I received a guaranteed offer for the Halifax All in One card through the online banking site the other day too - must be their time of the month!

I have to say, I'm quite pleased with Halifax's pre-approved offers. I've only been banking with them since September, and my credit history only goes back that far too, so it's not as if I've got a decent credit history. It might indicate that they only really look back at your credit/account behaviour over the last six months.

Cheque books are usually only provided on request these days as it costs money to print. They'll quite happily order one for an eligible account if you need it though.
