Halifax PPI redress Payments

  • Hi everyone,

I sent my original claim at the beginning of August. I received an upheld letter and offer from the Halifax on 19th October. The letter stated I didn't need to do anything and the money would be paid onto my credit card account (which I no longer have) and then I would be issued with a cheque. There was no time given for this. Is there a time limit for this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Liz.

I have two credit card complaints.
One is for an active card which has been repaid via cheque. The other is a closed card which I've heard nothing on.

Not a help but at least you know you're in the same boat.
  • Just received my chq this morning, I received my calculations dated 21.11.

    Goodluck to everyone else!!!:j

Called to see if my closed credit card had any calculations showing. Told by Nerys that she's no longer dealing with the PPI stuff, but she's e-mailed someone to give me a call...

Had a call back from Helen... my calculations letter was in the post on Friday, so should be getting that any day now, but she went through the figures with me. One card I knew the amount, as it was on my account online. I now know the amount I'm getting on my loan (although there doesn't appear to be anything there for the previous loan that it paid off - though tbh, I don't know if there was PPI on them) The only thing I'm disappointed with is on my now-closed card, I'm only getting £2.05 back! Looks like they've only gone back the obligatory 6 years, which coincides with the start of my loan that paid that card off (about £6-7k!!) in the first place... I've got a feeling that I'll be going to them on this one. :(

Great going on getting your cheques and payments, I'm still waiting but hopeful. Can you imagine if we all get back all the money the banks owe us and we spend like mad over Christmas we may just save the country from going back into recession. I've now sent off claims for mortgage ppi as I'm self employed and was at the time but they still insisted I took it out. Also put in a claim for a now paid off credit card, again taken out when self employed and ppi automaticall added until I queried it and they cancelled. Trying to remember if I have anything else lol

About time the banks gave back to the little people, we've certainly contributed enough to them over the years!

It covers self employed. However, you may get lucky if they are still auto upholding all complaints.

You do realise that without the banks, your standard of living would be far lower than it is currently. It may be fashionable to bash the banks but isnt it time that people stopped doing that for pointless reasons.

  • Hi dunston, im almost afraid to ask your advice on this one because sometimes your responses are scary!!! But i know you will be honest and you know your stuff even if its not always what we like to hear!!

We finally got our payment last week from Halifax for a cc account. The cheque was lodged pretty quickly but the amount was lower than we thought it would be. We have paid £30 ppi per month on average over the past 8 yrs on the card. We dont recall it ever being much less than £20. There was a few short periods where the balance was cleared but it was never for long. The 8% interest for the period cleared was £39 which we feel confirms that there was money owing for most of the time.

In our offer letter they said theyd estimate based on our activity the first two yrs etc. The figures dont really seem to make sense. The premium refund works out an average of £13 per month, total premium refund 980, interest 420 and 8% 39.

If thats what im owed then thats fine, if it hadnt been for mse and all the great folk her i would still be paying it. But equally if theyve messed up the calcs id rather get to bottom of it. I was trying to work out if they will give further breakdown or list of premiums paid and if we can still query it?? Is it too late to do SAR? Problem is we have banked the cheque!! Amersall has said on another thread that doing that is acceting it etc. So im assuming we should be grateful for what we've got and let it go??
