my mum when me and siblings where younger, if someone was driving too far "up her !!!!!!" she used to make us turn around and stare at the driver out of the back window
.. normally with 4 sets of eyes watching them they would slow down, it always worked

The whole world is in a rush...........Not sure what the rush is all about. I love old people to death but some of them are just plain DANGEROUS behind a wheel. I dont expect to have much road awareness when I'm 70+.

Saying that.....I live next to Bradford which pretty much means 50% of road traffic is Taxi's....Usualy Asians, talk about pure ignorance to road markings and other road users.

I refuse to be a passenger now in a Asian taxi. I'm not racist but after one experience I had on the way home from a night out its enough to put me off for life! I have never felt so scared in my life!!!!!

From my days as a police/advanced driver, if you were going straight ahead at a roundabout, you could use either lane. The left lane being for turn offs upto 12 o'clock and the right lane being for turnoffs after 12 o'clock. I don't think it has changed.

There are some roundabouts where the right lane is clearly marked as being for right turns only , but you still get ignorant gets who , when there is a long line of traffic in the left lane , will go in the right hand lane and go straight on

I can never understand how any driver can think it's ok to turn right at a roundabout from the left hand lane

I am often appalled at examples of bad driving but recently whilst supervising my daughter doing driving practice as she awaits her test I have never seen so much stupidity, exhibited mostly by men in large cars, towards her. Although she's still a learner her driving is generally competent but she has to show L plates. I thought they meant Learner but we decided a section of the driving community must think it means Licence to act like a Loony. Surely qualified drivers should see L plates and give the driver more room, more time, etc. And remember they were once learners not born with a driving licence.

But no, they cut her up, driving dangerously close when overtaking in a fit of anger that a learner is on the road, they overtake on the left even in narrow roads, pull outdangerously from side junctions in case they caught behind her, pedestrians walk into the road in front presumably because they think she's going very very slow. The other night she said 'the car behind is so far up my a*se he's practically in my mouth' (glad I sent her to that posh school). They flash and hoot from behind and then do it some more when they discover she's young pretty and blonde as they overtake. The other day she had 2 separate people forcing her to stop as they did a 3 point turn on busy roads, at 845 am on the way to her college.

Roads are becoming crowded and hazardous for us all and frighten me, a driver of 20 years, sometimes when I see so many near misses and reckless driving but a lot of these so called experienced drivers are making her life ,and mine as the 'superviser', a misery and doing nothing for her confidence because she's being subjected to so many dangerous situations. I get scared because I'm in charge but not actually in control of the car and am not always sure she can cope with what's thrown at her.

Once I forgot to take the L plates off as I drove and people were doing the same things to me. I felt that the only way to reduce this bad behaviour was to take her out for practice without the plates but a learner is required by law to display them front and back. Meanwhile she's wondering why she has to try so hard to be a good driver to pass her test in a few months and gets nagged constantly when all around her are people who clearly didn't learn to drive, didn't pass their test or who have bad eyesight.

And another thing who said it was OK for cars turning right out of a side road to pull out blocking cars coming from the right? The traffic, usually me, then have to stop because they are blocking the road while they wait fopr cars from the left to let them in. Then the naughty driver thanks the car that stopped to let him in, but he totally ignores me who was forced to stop and wait and use bad language.

    Grrrrrrrr
(Cant wait till she passes her test and I can stay off the roads altogether)

I know exactly how you feel Janis, I passed my test less than a year ago, and as my Mum has just bought a new car when I drive it with her there she makes me put P plates on the car, and whenever I have them up people jut seem to think that they can drive like a maniac around me, yet I never experiance it when the plates aren't on

That irritates me too  Some may say you have to do that or you'd be waiting forever for a gap in the traffic , but it's usually just impatience and ignorance IMO

lol,if its impatience causing them to pull out, what is it to complain about it and even result in swearing cause you have to stop for a few seconds?

have you noticed recently how many cars go through red lights?

every single junction there will be about 3 that should stop but go through. and yes i have done it too because it becomes so common you get to expect it.

Will resolve to stop this before i am caught by nasty policeman (or woman)

I saw a classic today, a large silver Merc doing 40 in 2 lanes of a motorway ie not quite in either lane, I discovered the reason why when I overtook, a blonde "footballer's wives" type person with a cigarette in her mouth and a mobile in her hand....you can get a hands free kit on the market for £5 for heavens sake.....
