I saw a lorry driver do this while on his mobile recently.
Scares the hell out of me, what are these people thinking ?

This happens often at a school close to us, its only a matter of time before some idiot hits a kid.
They have put bollards on the pavement on a road in our village (by a traffic light controlled junction) to prevent exactly this happening. And this is the busiest junction in the village 150 yards from two schools.

I make it a rule to undertake when someone hogs the middle lane. A swift check for a police car first mind you though. I will put my fog lights on in very heavy rain - it might just save someone ploughing into the back of me.

Indicators have become an optional accessory for many people. I used to use them but don't bother now because so many others don't. Maybe I shouldn't drop to their level but if they won't help me I won't help them.

If you had your way Daytona_nev people would be driving around without lights on when it was dark.

Heavy rain and "fog lights" aren't allowed. Sometimes heavy rain can actually be worse when it comes to visibility.

I tend to think that indicating helps me, as well as others, if it reduces the chances of them driving into me.

I have two pet driving hates at the moment: One is 43 mph man (overtakes you at 43mph in the 30 limit, goes through the 40 limit at 43mph, slowing only for the speed camera, then 43mph all the way through the 60 limit that follows, but there is no room to overtake.

Secondly, one thing that isn't drivers but it's the roads themselves. When you're driving in an area you're unfamiliar with and you get to a roundabout with 2 approach lanes but you want to go straight on. There is no sign of which lane you should use to go straight on, and there's traffic sat in both lanes, covering the road markings that they paint RIGHT IN FRONT of the roundabout showing which lane you should be in. So you pick a lane and then, just at the last minute, you can find out that you should have been in the other lane...

When in doubt and you intend to go straight on then always approach a roundabout in the left hand lane.... you can always shove some little old granny out of the way if needs be.

That's what I do, and then sometimes at the last minute you find the left lane is "left only" and the right lane is "right and straight on"...

If they just signposted it from a bit further back it would be a little more helpful.

  • Waiting for a queue of cars to move when a traffic light has turned green really iritates me. I always, really ;), seem to move once a light goes back to red.

Drivers on motorways who signal and maneouvre into that barely existant space in the next lane. Worse still are those that don't signal . And some do the signal when they have already started to swap lanes.

:T What a brilliant thread this is turning out to be, love all the posts and loving it when people have a go at wagon drivers( me being one!!)
yes there are crap drivers out there, be it car,van or wagon drivers.I myself think that I am good driver having passed my advanced course and my hazardous goods liscence, but everyone has bad habits, yes even you and me if we're honest, however in my opinion ninety nine percent of people on the roads are good drivers, its just that the idiots stand out.
My only pet hate realy is when people dont indicate at roundabouts, it doesnt help, when im trying to pull away with a fourty four ton wagon from a standing start fully loaded with acid or something just as safe! Everything else that has been mentioned can be anticipated the majority of the time even the ar@@hole in the bmw on the phone, not indicating, cutting you up to make his junction off the motorway.
People are saying where is a copper when you need one? WE dont need them thats what all the speed cameras are for arn't they ?!!!?
And no im not one of those wagon drivers who sits in the middle lane crawling past another wagon cant see the bloody point myself, all i do is drop the speed by one mile an hour and stay behind him at a reasonable distance looking at all you lovely ladies driving past ;)
    And on that note

I might get round to reading this thread one day.

    But here are mine:

    1. People who park on the end of designated parking bays leaving a gap between the end of the bay and the bumper of their car. The greater the gap the more of a !!!!!! halfwit they are. Now in some areas the traffic wardens are over zealous but in my areas trafic wardens won't mind if you have your wheels inside the box, and your bumper over hangs the box, and this is always what I do, I put my wheels just inside the end of the bay and stop. However, a lot of people are scared to do this (and rightly so in some areas - like Bath) and make sure their bumper is within the box - fine - no problem with that, but why do they feel it necessary to be inside the box by 2 feet? 1metre? 1.5m? 2m? If you are well within the box then you are reducing the available space for other cars to park in the box/bay.

    2. People who hog either of the two overtaking lanes on a motorway. I have been known to overtake on the inside. Which is not in and of itself actually illegal, contrary to popular belief. The copper would do you for dangerous driving (not overtaking on the left), I don't know of any cases where the defendant has won - would be interesting to know.

    3. People who don't have any decency to allow other cars out from side roads, and the ones who beep you when you allow someone out.

    4. People who tailgate, I always ease off the throttle and won't put my foot back on until the car has either overtaken or dropped back, so at least they have been inconvenienced as a direct result of them driving too close if they had not done so and had been at a safe distance I would not have slowed down and they could have overtaken when safe and would have got from A to B quicker.

    5. People who follow ambulances and don't allow the cars who have moved out the way to rejoin the flow of traffic. I have been known to just pull straight off the curb back into the traffic after a couple of #$&#ers have gone past me without stopping to let me out..... If you want an accident I'll bl90dy well give you one!

    6. lorry's blocking a two lane motorway/dual carriageway.

    7. WHen there is a lane closed up ahead, two things annoy me, the ones who all use the left hand lane as though the right hand side has got the plague (yes I know it's closing - but we have maybe a mile or more to go yet). As a result of this the people who zoom down the right hand lane annoy me. I will sometimes just sit in the RH lane and go the same speed as those on my left. I have seen lorry drivers doing this too. It makes sense for people to use both lanes and then do a one for one merge at the lane closesure point.

    8. People who don't pay@pump!!! Surely most people have got a card in their wallet/purse. People who wait outside the filling station, wondering which queue to take - just pick a !!!!!! queue allready and queue in it! someone behind you might have a filling cap on the other side of the vehicle and can't get to a pump which is vacant!!! I quite often just go around people queueing outside and straight onto a pump queue, so what, you do it your way, I'll do it my way!

Edit: 9. I got another one, People who sit at traffic lights with their foot on the brake pedal. At night this very annoying for the person behind.
