And on a similar subject to the fog lights. If you are driving along and the car behind you flashes you for no apparent reason for gods sake check your fog lights and turn them off! 9/10 times that is what people are trying to say to you

nice list all, can I add people towing broken down vehicles, both with their hazards on. We just have to guess which way they will turn next.
I`ve even seen a pro breakdown van doing it.

    Janis and Sheel,

Oh diddums, you had to wait a few seconds, oh you poor thing, that other person has been waiting for a non existant gap for god knows how long.

    I repeat ...........
so it's not so much impatience for holding me up , but just annoyance at their thoughtlessness towards other drivers
Of course I let them in where possible , but it isn't always safe to do so , nothing to do with impatience

I tend to think that indicating helps me, as well as others, if it reduces the chances of them driving into me.

Absolutely- it's the whole point of anything light/flashey on motors. The concept has escaped so many people. Case in point, you're driving along and sky goes dark like its gonna tip it down. Just because I can see some cars, doesn't mean others cant see me, well I've got a boring silver car.

    Thoughtlessness, What thoughtlessness?

Say I am the one trying to get out from a side road to turn right, there is a gap in the traffic coming from the right, so I pull into this side of the road. Now that I am here, it is hundred times more likely (than previously) that someone from the left wil let me in to continue my journey.

Now you are the one coming from my right, up ahead you notice me in your side of the road, you know exactly why I am there and you slow down you might even reach me and have to come to a stop. SO WHAT? I don't give a toss, I was here first, and I am going to wait until someone lets me in from the left. It's not about thoughtlessness, I am just trying to get out onto the main road and doing it any way I can (safely). More often than not the traffic is going to be so heavy that as soon as I am gone you are able to catch up the car in front of you in no time at all, hence, I haven't inconvienienced you in the slightest.

*Another pet hate to chalk up along these lines, is You are trying to get out from a side road the traffic is very heavy, you want to...

    a) turn left, the traffic comes to a halt and there's someone who stops right in front of you thus not letting you out in front of them.

    b) turn right, the traffic comes to a halt and there is someone who comes to a halt right in front of you thus you cannot move out into the road infront to take advantage of a gap (or considerate person) in the traffic coming from the left. In this scenario if the person (from the right) stopped to allow me out into the road, I will always thank this person aswell as the one from the left hand side.

Cars doing 90mph with the foglights on this morning - one of these is wrong - no actually both

so many people are now conditioned to turn the lights on when it looks foggy - it's hardly ever bad enough to need them - but they don't slow down at all - makes you wonder if they actually have any reasoning skills

When it comes to fog lights the one thing that I remember is seeing a news report where there had been a multi-car pile-up on some motorway in England. It was very foggy - people travelling too close and too fast. The news camera was there along with the police, ambulance etc. They were interviewing one motorist who had obviously been involved in the accident.

It was roughly at this point that I burst out laughing because he blamed the police for not turning on the 'fog warning signs' even the reporter asked the man 'why? surely he could see the fog' ... but the man was adamant that it was the polices fault. Personally I thought this fellow was too stupid to be a pedestrian not worry being allowed behind a wheel.

You use your right hand indicator, to show your intention of continuing round the roundabout, until just before you arrive at the exit you want, when you change to a left hand indicator.

I am not sure sure who this confuses but at least the vehicles in a position to hit me know that I will be passing in front of them.

    Fog lights should be banned,.
there's something alluring about a red light, then after looking at it for so long (cos it's all that grabs your attention) you start to feel road rage setting in and just want them to pull over so you can pummel the driver at the side of the road..

Unless you are continuing straight over. If you are unclear, there are earlier posts with links to the correct page of the highway code online showing you how to use your appropriate car signals correctly and safely.

It could save you an accident.
