girls have ended up wheelchair bound and others in comas from this jab are you people crazy??? stick em on the pill does the same and the minor side effects of not knowing when your gonna have a period are easier to deal with.

Could you post a link to the evidence you have that

    a) the job has been proven to leave girls in a coma

    b) that the pill offers any protection to cervical cancer/ HPV

  • Last year I worked as a nurse in the catch up programme, giving cervarix in the schools.

I personally immunized at least 2000 girls and not one of these girls had any serious reaction. A few sore arms but that's it. Remember I saw these girls 3 times each.

I have boys so it's not an issue for us, but if I had girls they would have it.

Oh my word, I have never heard anything so stupid.

  • I have read all the pages of this thread and have had to bite my tongue at a few things that have been said.

I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in 2008, i was 37 at the time, been with my hubby since i was 19, had a handful of sexual partners before him, but not enough to brag about....my last smear prior to diagnosis was 1 year before, it came back clear - as had all my previous smears, when my cancer was diagnosed it was too far gone for an op, it had spread and i needed chemo, radiotherapy and more, i lost my fertility at 37 and went into menopause, why am I telling you all this.... because if i could have had a jab to help maybe prevent this when i was younger, i would have had it, and knowing what i have been through and what the other 2800 women who are diagnosed every year with cervical cancer in the uk have been through, the side effects of a small jab are nothing compared to what you have to go through fighting cancer, i have nieces/friends children who have had this jab and had nothing more than a sore arm.

    Just a few more thoughts...

80% of women will have hpv and don't even know they have it, it is passed on through skin to skin contact and NOT sleeping around, you CAN catch hpv after 1 partner, condoms will help but will not stop you from getting it.
Ladies under 25 can not have a smear test in England, if you do pay for one privately, it MIGHT still not be tested as some labs have admitted destroying the samples once they see the age.

OP Good luck with your decision about your dd vaccine. Only you can decide what is best for her.

    Sorry for the long post.

Am sorry I have edited. Was in a rush to type it out..

I have been reading many reviews, and loads of bad ones about their child suffering from severe headaches, and joint problems since having the jabs, and the doctors dismissing them as a coincidence. Even death has been reported. YIKES!

I don't think I will let her have it done, I mean as long as she uses condoms when that time comes, she will be OK? And we will pay for private smears from the age of when she starts? (I had abnormal cells at age 19).

    What are your thoughts?

Just reading the bold bit was enough for me to question why on earth you are hesitation? Clearly there is possible family history as her mother has had abnormal cells and you can prevent her getting it. And you are questioning whether or not she should have it? Surely there is no question? Why would you want her to go through all you did at 19?

You cannot predict her sex life and her potential partners sex lives forever, you cannot make her use condoms forever (do not even give 100% protection anyway), that is an extremely naive attitude as far as I can see. If she gets it when she is older, it is too late then.

I have a daughter and I would not hesitate in getting it done when she is old enough, prevention of this god awful disease is far better than the cure - which does not happen in every case, you might well do well to remember that, especially when you have family history.

My DD had the vaccines a couple of years ago & apart from a sore arm for a couple of days she was absolutely fine :)
Just to win anything would be great!!
  • I just want to add that I am sorry to all the people who have been through any form of cancer or have lost loved ones - and thank you for sharing your stories with us. It is a god awful disease, if we can do something to protect ourselves or our loved ones, we have to grab it with both hands. Especially when the side effects have been pretty minimal. You have to ask whether a few headaches for a few weeks would be better than months of chemo.

I haven't read all of the responses but wanted to add my opinion.

A few months ago I had my very first smear. The results showed moderate dyskarosis and I had to go to a hospital appointment where I had a colposcopy and a biopsy (which for me was rather painful).

The results of the biopsy showed I had CIN 2 (which is basically pre-cancerous cells) and tomorrow I have a hospital appointment to have the cells removed.

Yes there are smears and yes I am thankful that my smear picked up these cells and I will thankfully be treated so that they don't advance to cancer however it has been a horrible few months for me with the worry that I might have cancer (before I got the biopsy results) and whilst not horrifically painful the biopsy was not pleasant and I'm expecting some discomfort tomorrow once the anaesthetic wears off. Also for me I'm a bit of a baby so I have found the indignity of it all very stressful.

If a quick vaccination whilst I was younger would have been able to prevent the above then I would have certainly taken it.

Although I must confess I know nothing about this vaccine and its possible side effects and I think you're doing the right thing by researching to make an informed decision.

I know i'd rather be dealing with a few minor side effects of a jab than the catalogue of them i deal with following treatment including chronic neck pain, jaw cramps, rotting teeth, completely destroyed saliva glands, reduced taste sensations & at very best severely affected fertility! (as a single male fertility clinics honest to god are the single worst places to ever find yourself in - so it's understandable that rather than going back for a fourth time 6 months later i decided to let fate take it's course!) Seriously, anyone questioning the "side effects" of the jab based on google, hearsay & plain stupidity needs to understand the simple fact.

If you're NOT a doctor, not a 100% qualified physician, not educated to atleast a university standard or have experienced these side effects, your opinion is not valid on the side effects.

Sounds harsh, but ultimately hundreds of thousands of girls get this jab every year without any negative effect, thus giving them the best chance possible of avoiding a life changing disease - if there were any serious side effects in considerable volume they wouldn't get the jab, it's that simple. I realise that "considerable volume" is a hugely subjective figure & "serious side effects" are again subjective, but if 1 in 100,000 people suffers headaches or winds up in a wheelchair that still means that 99,999 people have zero negative effect. That to me is a risk worth taking considering you are probably at greater risk every day in life walking to & from work.
