Sounds like a very bad deal for those of us who use airmiles to fly from Northern Ireland to the mainland.

At the minute I can fly Belfast City to Heathrow return including free baggage with BMI for 750 miles. This will now cost 9000 (900 in old money) PLUS the charges.

Looks like, the only value to these miles now is to book from London to Europe. Disappointing.

I'm in the same sort of fail-boat now - I use AirMiles to visit my family who live in Holland. Previously 750 miles for a trip to Amsterdam from London - with the new scheme it'll be 9000 Avios (900 miles) PLUS 27 quid.

    :(

I can't see it saying the values from flights from London to Belfast anywhere, let alone that the number of points is increasing - if it's 750 now, it should be 7500 Avios...
  • Anyone know if there's a table for amount of Airmiles needed to upgrade?

according to the website, it's 1/2 what the flight would cost to go from economy to premium economy (or, whatever they call it) or from premium economy to business. and the 1X the points cost to go from business to first

so, if a flight would be 10,000 for economy, it would cost 5000 to go to premium economy, another 5,000 to go to business, and another 10,000 to go to first

You mean the two companies (+Iberia) that are mergin into 1 company called Avios? Which is what this is all about?
  • We've used Airmiles extensively to fly from Aberdeen to Heathrow. Also I've used FLYBE to fly my elderly mother from Exeter to Aberdeen. Both "cost" 750 AIRMILES per person return including baggage. How can I find out what the cost for Domestic BA flights are going to be and if there will still be an option to use FLYBE?

    Thanks

    Any news on domestic flights?????

    looks like 9000 plus £27
  • Using airmiles to fly London to Edinburgh return, was 750 airmiles INCLUDING taxes etc. That's £37.50 in Tesco vouchers. New price will be 900 airmiles (9000 avios), i.e. £45 in Tesco vouchers PLUS £27. Total £72. That's almost double what it was.

Using airmiles to fly London to New York return, was 5000 airmiles INCLUDING taxes etc. That's £250 in Tesco vouchers. New price will be 4000 airmiles (40000 avios) i.e. £200 in Tesco vouchers PLUS about £300 in taxes etc. Total £500. That's double what it was.

A price rise for inflation would be understandable, but this is so much worse. It's the destruction of the airmiles scheme.

So unfair to people who have been collecting airmiles in good faith, or saving up Tesco vouchers. Need to rethink what to do with those!
  • When I got the e-mail I was suspecting the bad news about having to pay taxes and fees would be buried in the small print and it was! I have spent years building up points. I have converted clubcard vouchers and I even went as far as upgrading my LLOYDS tsb airmiles duo card to a premier card at a cost of £50 in order to earn miles at a rate of 1.25 miles rather than 1 per £10 spent + a free companion ticket when you spen 15k in a year. All this was part of a plan to fly to Australia completely free next year for myself and my wife. This would have costed 10000 miles + the voucher (which I would be due next August). Under the new scheme it would be 100k points (ie. 10,000 miles) + fees and taxes amounting to £900-£1000 as it's £450 to £500 per person. How could they devalue the airmiles so much!!!!! I question if this is legal and then I think it must be as they are doing it! Anyway I shall cash in before the scheme changes and then stop collecting- better to have cashback credit card I say!
