to be able to fly to further an better destinations

But flights are always subject to availability, I don't see the point of getting so many airmiles for flights that may not be available when you want to go.

Why lock into such a scheme for something that may not be available?

Seems like putting all your eggs in one basket.

It is the same argument as when people wher miffed about Tesco rewards falling from 4x to 3x.. Because they were "saving up" and now their vouchers in the draw are worth less.

But that was changed because they were keeping double clubcard points and not just having it as an occasional promotion.

Not every single flight may be available, but there is usually a resonable selection available (out of school holidays) and there are many destinations to choose from. also as it would be for several people travelling, then the number of airmiles collected had to take that into account
  • I have been unable to find the zone map for Avios. Please could someone post a link to it?

    Many thanks :)

It was definitely well marketed, but for people up to that point who only got 1 point per £1 spent and were saving for holiday with Cosmos, Virgin, Goldsmiths vouchers for diamonds or what ever and didn't have enough at the time that statement meant nothing..

The future and up till now are 2 different time zones.. The saved up vouchers from PAST spend were worth less.

So pretty much the same situation as we are in now with Airmiles..
Great if you want to fly short/mid haul and from anywhere but London, but not so great for others.. unless you use it now.

not can't use them for the purpose for which they sold for by Airmiles

Yes you can - you just don't like that government taxes are being passed onto you now. Write to your MP.
I would rather have 2 or more flights than 1 upgraded flight

You claimed they were worthless - I'm just pointing out how incorrect you are.
    can't say for legal reasons

ie "no". If you mounted a legal campaign you'd be public about to to generate as much support and funding as possible. You have no legal grounds for recourse, but I would wish you well should you try.
How can it be a loyalty reward? If some one gives £2.50 to a company in exchange for airmiles,

You seem to think Airmiles and Tesco vouchers have a CASH value - they do, but it's 0.0001p each. You can exchange them for goods and services, but that doesn't give them a CASH value. The value in exchange for your tesco vouchers or airmiles have not changed.

All that's changes is the passing on of free onto you.
then rest assured that i am doing something about it as are many others.

Grumbling about it on the internet.
It also depends on the time of year you travel. For example if you want to fly to New York, it will cost you £200 in vouchers plus £300 in tax making it £500. For a lot of the year, you can get the same flight from the BA website for £396 During summer the BA flight does increase in price. It is a similar scenario for the rest of the world with taxes increasing up to £600 for Austrlaia

You are missing a major point here - your miles are buying you a flexible ticket, whereas your cash is not. Please price up a flexible cash ticket for comparison, then be pleasantly surprised how much additional value your miles/points are actually worth.

You are comparing apples and oranges.
Let me put it another way. If you exchanged your vouchers for a Cosmos holiday and then of all the sudden, Cosmos said, you need to pay another £300 per person, would you think that was acceptable? no i didn't think so. Same principle.

You are missing a massive issue here - Cosmos and Virgin have been doing this for years, by only letting you use vouchers against full price holidays, not the discounted ones available online. Hence your £300 of tesco vouchers end up being worth £40 or some such.

So please detail your legal campaign as we'd be interested to learn of your strategy.

As such I would have thought, that the only valid argument is whether 4 mths advance notice to book holiday for next year ahead is reasonable... For loyalty scheme.
  • Any wrote: »
Ermmmm.... that is the point. There is nothing all of the sudden about it. You have 4 mths to book something for a 50 weeks ahead.

And yes, I am aware that Cosmos can change it... that is why I am not exchanging to Cosmos as I go along (that and the fact that you only have short life of Cosmos vouchers to use them).

It is the same argument as when people wher miffed about Tesco rewards falling from 4x to 3x.. Because they were "saving up" and now their vouchers in the draw are worth less.
Of course everyone was miffed, including me, but there was NOTHING anyone could have done.

You have missed the point, had you ALREADY exchnaged for Cosmos vouchers and then they asked you for a further £300 person AFTER the exchange, would you just accpet it?

It is not the same argument becase at that point people had the choice whether to exchnage for somthing else or just to keep them as £2.50 vouchers.

It is clear that you are misunderstnding something here. When you have tesco vouchers, you have a chioce as to what to do with them. If you exchnage them for anything uner the reward scheme, you expect to be able to get what you exchanged them for don't you. So if you exchange them for a Cosmos holiday or a toaster, you expect to be able to that prodocy with out any additional charges. That is the same with Airmiles, i and many other chose the reward as Airmils and just as someone chaging them for a toaster or a Cosmos holiday, we would not expect any additional charges. Does that make sense now

You have no idea what I am doing and who the hell do you think you are telling me what I am doing and not doing.

You really need to get your facts straigh.

Read the simplified explanation i put in a prevoius post as regarding actually buying a reward and not expecting to pay somtyhing on top of it
