You seemed to suggest your miles were being taken away from you and you wanted them ring fenced.

It will not be cheaper to buy a short haul flight direct from BA.
Long haul you still get free flights - you only pay taxes. Complain to the government if you feel taxes are too high.
Long haul miles represent an extremely valuable method for upgrades - you are currently looking at £600 + 20k points for a £2000 business flight - 20k points values at £1400!!!!

I recently burnt 150k miles and £700 for £10,000 of flights.

How can that not be value for miles????????

T&C can ber onerus in law and fail under the unfair contracts act

How can it be a loyalty reward? If some one gives £2.50 to a company in exchange for airmiles, then thay have bought them. Also if you look on Airmiles website, they sell airmiles which you need to pay with a card. That is just like going into a travel agent and buying a flight but you saying the ticket is a loyalty reward. In order for it to be a loyalty reward, Airmiles would have to give them free for a reason.

It is actually less than 4 months, however, even if it was 4 months, that is not a reasonable amount of time for several reasons.

Not everone knows at this time of year what dates they can book from work next year.

Some people have far to many to be able to use all by next year

Some people have airmiles in the system through Tescos that will not hit thier account until it is too late, you may or may not be aware, but a lot of people have there tesco clubcard accounts set up to automatically send them to Airmiles.

Sorry, but you didn't give them £2.50 for it. You gave them another loyalty's program points with £2.50 written on it for the Airmiles. Still not money. Even though they have monetary value. If I take my Tesco vouchers to the bank to pay them in they won't take them!

What does not being able to exchange next statement's Tesco rewards in time have to do with anything??? Tesco offer it as one of the rewards, they put in and take out rewards all the time, without letting you know "quickly, buy this and that before it expires" for every single one.

The fact that you are saving up Airmiles and exchanging Tesco all the time instead of waiting is no one's but your problem, again, Tesco's vouchers expire and don't wait for me to collect enough to go on holiday with Cosmos either!!

And I wouldn't have thought there are any Airmiles in the pipeline right now.. last statement's ones should have hit your account before now and there is plenty of time to change setting before next mailing!

The only point I do agree with is the Airmiles you actually bought for cash on their site.... That is rubbish. Especially as they are very bad value to start with..
  • I have £200 worth of tesco vouchers that I want to change to airmiles, would I be better off changing them to airmiles now or wait until they change to Avios?
  • can't say for legal reasons

Don't waste your money, not that I believe you are actually doing anything other than having a rant.:p

Look, things change, just like prices, taxes etc. At one time you were getting 120 airmiles per £2.50 REWARD VOUCHER. Now you get 50. You could allso change them 4 for 1 at Barcelo, Hilton, Marriott etc etc. Now its 3 for 1.

You are incorrect, a £2.50 voucher that can be used to buy things worth £2.50 has a monetory value. Of course not in a bank, that is a stupid arguement. You really need to brush up on your law before you start spouting stuff.

Let me put it another way. If you exchanged your vouchers for a Cosmos holiday and then of all the sudden, Cosmos said, you need to pay another £300 per person, would you think that was acceptable? no i didn't think so. Same principle.

It means that people who have already shopped at Tescos that have been using the vouchers or having them automatically, will not have them converted into Airmiles in time to be able to realistley use them as they thought they were going to.

Sure tesco put in rewards and take them out all the time, however when you are looking at a particular reward, you know the price of it and you are not loced into that reward, wheras people who have airmiles are locked in. If the would refund back into tesco vouchers, then that would be differant.

Actually, mine are still in the pipeline

You can belive what you wish, but as i have several thousands of pounds locked into airmiles, then rest assured that i am doing something about it as are many others.

Things change, i agree, however airmiles were prepurchased, that is the differance. The same as if you exchnaged them for a stay at a Hilton and then you got there, you wouldnt expect to have to pay more for your stay because thier prices had gone up would you

Why did you lock so many into airmiles?

It depends on what you are going to use them for, if it is for long haul flights, kit is not worth canging them at all unless you are looking to have an upgraded flight. It also depends on the time of year you travel. For example if you want to fly to New York, it will cost you £200 in vouchers plus £300 in tax making it £500. For a lot of the year, you can get the same flight from the BA website for £396 During summer the BA flight does increase in price. It is a similar scenario for the rest of the world with taxes increasing up to £600 for Austrlaia.

If however you want to fly shorhaul, the new scheme may benefit you as the zones have changed and the tax has been capped at £27

I am not sure if you Tesco vocuhers have an expiery date on them, if they do and it is a long expiry date, i would wait to see what you want to use them for and research your options regarding where and when you want to go

Apart from that, it dosnt matter when you exchange them because you will end up with the same amount of Avios points after they change the scheme anyway

Ermmmm.... that is the point. There is nothing all of the sudden about it. You have 4 mths to book something for a 50 weeks ahead.

And yes, I am aware that Cosmos can change it... that is why I am not exchanging to Cosmos as I go along (that and the fact that you only have short life of Cosmos vouchers to use them).

It is the same argument as when people wher miffed about Tesco rewards falling from 4x to 3x.. Because they were "saving up" and now their vouchers in the draw are worth less.
Of course everyone was miffed, including me, but there was NOTHING anyone could have done.
