My mother ordered talktalk new line installation and broadband package (£17.74) on 4th July (over the phone). She has not recieved any letters of confirmation - is this normal?

She was told that they would text her to confirm installation date of the phone line - but they haven't and the estimate she was given at the time was 20-23rd July.

I have a horrible feeling this is going to go awfully wrong.....

    Hi darren2385,

We can only provide account specific information to the named account holder. I would recomend that your mother gives the new lines team a call on 0800 049 1424 and quotes her NL reference number. The team should be able to provide an update for her on the progress of the order.

I had a phone/broadband package with TalkTalk. After a series of problems including inability to access email correspondence, an unreliable broadband connection and problems with billing I decided to switch to another company.
Having read on this site and elsewhere of problems experienced by others in moving to another company from TalkTalk I resolved to be meticulous in adhering to the terms and conditions of my contract in order to ensure a smooth transition. Despite this, my experience was one of continual harassment for non payment for a service which I no longer received. Despite phone calls to a variety of offices throughout the world, emails, and a succession of recorded delivery letters to which I did not receive a response I was still pursued for debt. Bear in mind this was a problem which was clearly due to their negligence and could so easily have been resolved by a company which was in any way competent. Fortunately I had kept a detailed record of all phone calls and correspondence. I was in effect forced to take this issue to Otello but while this matter was being considered by them I received threatening correspondence from a debt collection organisation used by TalkTalk. What I thought was finally an end to the matter was when Otello decided in my favour and required TalkTalk to provide me with an apology, financial compensation, and assurances regarding my credit worthiness. But guess what, some time after I get a letter with the compensation plus the required assurances from TalkTalk I get yet another threatening letter from TalkTalk's debt collector!!
Writing as a person of sixty plus years of age TalkTalk are easily and without a shadow of doubt the very worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. The people I feel for sorry for are those who have not kept good records of their dealings with the company or don't have the time, energy, or ability[such as the very old, and I don't include myself in that category yet!!!] to stand up to the shoddy treatment emanating from this organisation. I'm pretty certain that many in the pursuit of a 'quiet life' or to avoid the stress of embarking on a protracted complaints procedure meekly accept their unjustified demands.

When I wrote the above Post#431 my thoughts were that TalkTalk could not display a level of incompetence greater than that which I had experienced up to that point. Sadly I was wrong in that belief. There were to be further developments!

Following my receipt of the above mentioned 'threatening letter' after Otelo had found in my favour and after I had received an apology, compensation, etc from TalkTalkl I again referred the matter to Otelo. I was then informed by Otelo that they would get in touch with TalkTalk to ensure that the ombudsman's decision was adhered to in full.

For a couple of months thereafter I enjoyed a peaceful life free from the stress associated with being pursued by TalkTalk. This was not to last and my tranquillity was shattered by[you've guessed it] another succession of threatening letters from TalkTalk's debt collectors. I could barely believe it!

Yet again I contact Otelo to update them regarding these developments. They have just written to me to say that they have been in touch with TalkTalk on my behalf and they again assure me that this dreadful company will complete the ombudsman's final decision. Well I certainly hope so!

So, after a lot of worry, time spent, frustration, and expense the end of this saga has been reached[or has it:eek:] and hopefully I will have no further dealings with the disreputable company that TalkTalk have shown themselves to be.

She phoned them earlier last week and they said install 20th July.

Friday she got a text saying it will be 27th July.

What is she supposed to believe? I can see this going badly...
  • Please help. I have never known such levels of incompetence from call centre staff as those at Talk Talk. I have eight accounts with them and thought they might be interested in my business when I tried to open a ninth line.
Each day I call to chase up my order and every time I am told a different story – they have sent the router; there is a postal strike; there is no order for a router on the system; there is a fault on my line and it will be repaired within four hours; they have no evidence of my line; this is not a Talk Talk number; a senior manager will call you back within three hours.
It goes on week after week. Constant lies from their incompetent staff. I am regularly transferred from one department to another and then cut off.
If there was any way of transferring all my accounts to a different provider without being without broadband and phone for a month, I would do it today.
In addition to this I still cannot access any of my accounts online because of a fault at their end which they promised would be sorted out weeks ago.
Maybe I should cancel all my direct debits with them and see if they respond then?

IMO talktalk might be the cheapest but the service is horrendous. I've been with them for years, it was fine for just the phone (free calls to family, etc) but the wireless broadband was horrendous. So much so that I ended up just plugging into the phone line, completely defeating the object of having wireless. I've gone to BT now (please forgive me) and despite feeling that I'm getting ripped off, the service is very very good. Very quick wireless broadband, which is all I really wanted in the first place.

    Hi Theputneyguy,

Could you possibly register on the TalkTalk Members forums to allow me to look into your account and orders (https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums).

  • I have been with Talk Talk for several years and would agree that provided you have no faults then the service is fine and good value.:j
But it is when you have a fault that you find out how bad they are.
My phone line went dead on 1st July and even after 9 days and more than a dozen separete calls to their 0870 faults reporting number, which is not free from a mobile or non Talk Talk line, I still had no phone line. I had a similar experience in 2007 when I had no phone for 12 days.

On the 9th July, I eventually resorted to visting their head office in London. I had been promised multiple call backs to my mobile from their staff to keep me up to date as to what was being done but had not heard from anyone.

I suggested to the woman "from the CEO's office" at Talk Talk's that, as I had been promised call backs by many different staff and had received none, Talk Talk's staff must either be liars or incompetent. She disagreed with me, but when I asked her what else she would call it she could not come up with anything, so it appears she must agree that my opinion that their fault reporting staff are liars or incompetent is correct.

I now have her direct line number, so shall not be bothering with the 0870 number to report any future faults. I shall just call her direct.:rotfl:

Amazingly (or not) my phone line was working again by mid day the next day (10th July).

James sounds like you have really gone through the mill with this one, dozen of 0870 calls from a non talktalk telephone, no telephone service from 1st - 9th july, MMMMMMMMMM have you received any explanation regarding the lack of service? I strongly suggest you make an official complaint regarding this. you had no service and you have been out of pocket. I would not raise anything regarding a complaint via talktalk customer service on the telephone, as everyone knows they are really bad. Post your experiences on the talktalk forums, let the green tops deal with it. My experience of the forum is mixed, but worth a try.

Your post also brought up a concern for me. If my talktalk broandband and phone went down, i too would have to use there expencive 0870 number, which from a mobile is very costly indeed. I printed off numbers from saynoto0870, go on the website now: https://www.saynoto0870.com get all talktalk non 0870 numbers from there, at least you would be prepaired for the next time (smile)

let us know how you get on
