SOme cruise lines will swap cruises or less than the cancellation fees

Find out what the £900 is made up of and the options to mitigate these losses.

Not being funny but they would be screaming blue murder if the cruise company had just pulled the cruise and given them their money back.

I very much doubt any holiday insurance company is going to pay out for a cancelled holiday which was booked with full knowledge of the condition that is preventing them taking it.

I wish had £900 to put down a deposit on a holiday without discussing it with the people who were going.

Sorry no sympathy with this one. take the cruise or lose the money.

go easy on the newbies, my mom is 70 years old and booked it without me there so wasn't fully aware as it was done over the phone, she has bad hearing too.

    Thanks for the help!!!!!

Another thing to think over first is - can you transfer the monies over to another holiday through them with out flight or shorter flights, as due to health problems you father will be unable to cope with a ten hour flight.
I have met a couple who have did this rather than cancel and loose their deposit.

Which cruise line are they sailing with?

    Thank you, will mention this

    Royal Carribean cruise line

Royal Caribbean are very accomodating and sail out of Southampton all year round. They also sail out of most short haul European ports Venice, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma. I feel fairly confident that if it is possible they will change the cruise to one more suitable.

Is it normal to want to have the balance of the holiday paid 20 weeks before departure?

    Again ..sorry.

We all have off days and my post came out a bit grumpy. my point is they should not assume this will end in a refund. you are relying on goodwill here.

do what the others suggest , you never know you may get a UK cruise. thing is though they( cruise company) don't have to refund you and should not be treated as being "bad guys".

    hope they get it sorted.

Should you wish to make any changes to your confirmed holiday, you must notify us in writing as soon as possible. Whilst we will
endeavour to assist, we cannot guarantee we will be able to meet any such requests. For guests wishing to make a significant
amendment to their booking outside of 56 days from departure, such as changing the ship, sail date or brand, please note that a
booking transfer fee is applicable. The transfer fee is £75 per guest which is limited to the first two guests on a booking, therefore any
3rd/4th guests will not be charged. Please note: the transfer fee is a non-refundable amount, which will be included in any cancellation
charges as in point 1.10 above. Please note: that your booking will be re-priced in-line with the up-to-date business and price rules and
a new confirmation invoice will be issued. For all changes that we consider to be minor changes (such as a change of stateroom or
name changes on an existing booking by way of example only) outside of 56 days from departure, an amendment fee of £35 per guest
per booking will be payable together with any costs incurred by ourselves and any costs or charges incurred or imposed by any of our
suppliers. Please note: the amendment fee is a non-refundable amount, which will be included in any cancellation charges as in point 1.10
above. Passengers should note that airlines may not allow name changes on scheduled flights and that the flight booking may need to be
cancelled and rebooked. The rebooking will always be subject to flight availability and to payment of any charges imposed by the airline
which may, in some cases, be the full cost of the ticket. Given that the transfer and amendment fees are both non refundable, we would
recommend that these amounts are collected from the guest at the time the changes are made, as they will be charged to the booking
as part of any cancellation. If you request a change within 56 days of departure, this may be treated as a cancellation of your original
booking and cancellation charges as set out in these terms and conditions will be payable (see clause 1.10). The changed arrangements
will then be treated as a new booking. If you or any of the persons travelling with you is prevented from taking the holiday, such as due
to medical reasons, you/they may give your/their place on the booking to someone else (suggested by you). In this situation, providing
we are given not less than 7 days notice in writing of your wish to make the change, we will permit the name change. The airline and
flight routing may differ from the original assignment due to this name change. You must produce documentary proof of the reason for
the transfer of your/their booking with the request (e.g., a letter from a doctor etc.). Both the person who was originally due to take the
holiday and the person who actually does so must make sure that the administration fee and any charges/costs (see below) as well as
any amount which is still due to be paid for the holiday is paid as required before any change can be made.

what is it that makes your dad unable to fly that far ?

Long haul flights are often a fair bit more comfy than a short haul. I have took 11 hour flights that were a lot better than 2-3 hour flights.

your 2 destinations have some of the more luxurious airlines flying to and from them.
