Didn't they know where the cruise was leaving from and it would therefore be a long flight?

You don't know my mom, books holidays and then speaks to my dad!

Before she speaks to the insurance company I think you should take stock... Its better to get the events and facts wriiten down and be there when she speaks to them. Also porb would need to spk to his doctor before the conversation. I think you need to pursue Planet first and foremost and apeal to their goodwill. You don t say how old your parents are and what your Dads health is like.

Last year I had to cancel a very long itinerary with numerous separate hotel booking and managed to get almost all the companies to relax their cancellation. I think this stance has to be worth a go, but someone other than your Mum to do it... prob you! let us know the outcome

    Dubai isn't that far.

Not being funny but they would be screaming blue murder if the cruise company had just pulled the cruise and given them their money back. Are they baby boomers by any chance?

I wish had £900 to put down a deposit on a holiday without discussing it with the people who were going.

Sorry no sympathy with this one. take the cruise or lose the money.

I think that is extremely harsh, you have no idea of the circustances, it could have been a surprise big birthday or anniversary cruise, a restorative cruise. One which the buyer really hoped would be received well and then reality set in that her husbands capabilities were not as she might hope they were.

Smacks of jealousy and self righteousness.

fair point . and sorry , I'm in a grumpy mood today.

But really a partner should have some idea if the other traveller is medically able to take a long haul flight . if there is any doubt then ask before booking.

If the cruise company has shelled out for the flights then i think they are entitled to not refund here. why should they be out of pocket?
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • Good luck with the refund. I can't believe how sarcastic some people are being on this post. :(

This is exactly the sort of thing my parents would do so can undertand your frustation .....

I really wish grumpy or not people would stick to helping OPs otherwise these forums are nt worth reading. Things are not always black or white and as I suggested it may just be possible to find a way forward with the right negotiation

Another thing to think over first is - can you transfer the monies over to another holiday through them with out flight or shorter flights, as due to health problems you father will be unable to cope with a ten hour flight.
I have met a couple who have did this rather than cancel and loose their deposit.

Which cruise line are they sailing with?

Help them by explaining that travel companies are really struggling at the moment, and when they go bust people lose their jobs.

Profit margins are wafer thin and the company might not be able to afford to just refund £900 it has already shelled out.

This isn't like putting £900 down on a car and then finding out the car is unsuitable. The car seller would not be disadvantaged by a buyer pulling out.
