Thank you to all who are registering as bone marrow donors - the hunt continues for a match for my sister.
She has Aplastic Anaemia, first diagnosed 6 years ago. As I am not a match for her, she has tried other treatments in the past but each time has relapsed. A transplant now is the last hope.0 -

I'm not on Anthony Nolan but I've been on the British Bone Marrow Register for years, the one that's run by the blood service. Does anyone know if they share information on donors? If not I'll re-register with AN but hopefully they do.0

I'm pretty sure they share info, or at least that anyone searching for a match will look through both lists! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
I've just had a look on NHSBT and found the following quote:"The British Bone Marrow Registry is a division of NHS Blood and Transplant, working in co-operation with the other UK bone marrow/blood donor registries, Anthony Nolan, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of patients needing a stem cell transplant and the NHS Cord Blood Bank."
Sounds like they all hook up together.
ETA, reading further down the page: "Patients and potential donors are matched by comparing the white cells in the blood to reveal tissue types. We work in collaboration with Anthony Nolan, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of patients needing a stem cell transplant. If you register with the BBMR you may in future be asked for permission to be contacted by Anthony Nolan if you are ever identified as a possible donor for a patient needing a stem cell transplant. If you agree Anthony Nolan will contact you to talk you through the next steps, and ask you for a further blood sample for more extensive tissue typing."
If you're on one you're effectively on both. No need to register with AN as well. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

Sorry to ask a question thats probably already been answered but do you have to be between 18 and 30 to register? I'm 34 and would be willing to do it. I can't give blood due to recent tattoos but I'd assume this is different. Feel free to PM me with details if I'm able to and I'll sign straight upI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0

You will be fine age-wise http://www.anthonynolan.org/What-you-can-do/save-a-life/Medical-exclusion-criteria.aspx according to that webpage.
I think the initial campaign was the most cost-effective category for the charity because it costs £100 to test to put someone on the register.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
