I know my friend got a letter from the girl he donated too, a few years later on though, also whilst he is donating to her he can't donate to anyone else.
He had to fly down to London for them to take his marrow, he didn't mind though (and they paid for that)0 -
If you post specific questions on this thread, I will pass them on to Anthony Nolan. If I can I will see if I can get an official representative to join MSE and to comment on the thread.
Are you concerned because you would want to remain anonymous?
Thanks for the speedy response whitewing. Anonymity is not a huge concern, I simply used that example because the lack of consistency is clear. I'm more interested in the procedures involved with the two types of donation and more predominantly the risk(s) involved with.
Specifically for the PBSC procedure:
"Every day for four days before the PBSC donation takes place, you will receive an injection of a medication called filgrastim." Does this take place at a hospital or can it be done at home/work - which I think I read something about on the AnythonyNolan site?
"On the fifth day, you will be connected to a special machine that can separate the stem cells from your blood." - How long does this take?
Thanks0 -
Sorry, I did try, but I'm over 40 (how did that happen???!). I will post on other forums I'm on, though.
I can't give blood either, because every time I do I almost pass out. In the end the blood service told me not to bother again (they phrased it more nicely than that) because it obviously is too much of a shock to my system.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

I have put the link up on my facebook page to draw attention to it. I have also skyped my nephews to try and get them to join. Maybe we could all (well who have it) make it our status on Facebook/Twitter etc...?
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Can't remember how long my friend said it took for them to harvest the stem cells.
But, he had to go to a doctors to get the injections everyday (in his stomach) or you can choose the back of your arm (I think!)0 -

i would love to donate or even give blood (despite hating needles lol) but as I had leukaemia myself as a child I am not allowed. I will however carry on persuading my OH to give blood and maybe even put his name on the register! Obviously having survived it myself I can understand how much it would mean to the people and families involved!! Good work people xx0

I tried to register but my BMI is to high (there's another great reason to lose weight!), I will post the link on my facebook status though. I have been on the blood donor register for 4 - 5 years now, but in that time I've only been able to give blood 3 times because every time I get a chance to donate I've got a cold. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!Planning on being debt free by Sept 2015Sept 2014: £4396.16Feb 2015: £2150.070

Just seen this. >Am now 60 so have been deleted from the register, but about 10 years ago, I was 'chosen' (it did feel special), to donate marrow. Then, they used to drill holes at the base of your spine, now I think it it just harvested from blood. I hope the donee lived, but I prefered no contact at the time. Go for it !0
