a week...blimey. I suppose it is because of the new procedure. I was there (Royal London Free Hospital - wonderful place) for 2 days. They insisted I take someone down with me (to take me home). He stayed in a superb hotel and had a wonderful time while I was in. I hate to think of the overall cost. I often wonder if the person got on alright/is alive now. I did contact A/Nolan,, but they have no contact with the donee anymore. Heyho, you can only do your best and hope that someone would do the same for you/your family, if needed. It was nice to give something, freely

My sister is waiting on an urgent bone marrow transplant at the moment. I'm not a match and our parents are too old; I've posted the Anthony Nolan link on facebook and am asking everyone I know to consider being a donor.
Thank you for all who are considering registering to be a donor.

Bumping up for Saffagal's sister. Would be great to get some more people registering. Thank you everyone.

Another bump in case a potential match for Saffagal's sister is on MSE!

I can't give blood either, because every time I do I almost pass out. In the end the blood service told me not to bother again (they phrased it more nicely than that) because it obviously is too much of a shock to my system.

smileyt I almost always used to pass out whilst giving blood, and was once spectacularly sick all over the nurse but now they take a 'half donation' and that works out fine for me provided I sit down with some orange squash and a biscuit for a bit!

The nurse told me that the half-donations are usually split into different blood products but that my smaller donation was still very much needed. Might be worth asking if you are still keen to donate.

My son is 25, I'll give him a ring tomorrow to tell him to sign up. He tried to donate blood but can't because he's gay (gay men can't give blood if they've had sex in the last 12 months) but I've checked the Anthony Nolan site and gay men can donate bone marrow. :j
