Lotus-eater wrote: »I probably should think about it tbh. A cat changed into a "thing" like a monster "thing", all so odd, it's difficult to explain. It sort of exploded out like something from the film MASK, made a face at me, then went back into a cat again. A pretty ugly cat with only one eye and alot of scars, but still a cat.
I only saw it'd head, because it was looking round a corner at me.
It totally totally freaked me out and I was a pretty tough little boy tbh.
That does sound extremely freaky, I don't blame you for not liking to think about it. I've never heard of anything quite like that before.
I read an interesting article about false memories once that claimed most of us have some sort of memory we firmly believe to be true but isn't. It made me wonder if perhaps the memory I have of seeing a 'ghost' in my parents bedroom was something I'd convinced myself of but had never really happened. Do you suppose what you saw could be a false memory?0 -

When I was there I was convinced I did, I went into a sort of shock at the time. But I suppose over the years you start to doubt yourself, it was an awful long time ago.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Sleep paralysis and the associated hallucinations are thought to be responsible for 99.9% of alien abduction reports (there are a few that don't fit the pattern, thought to be the genuine ones-I am a believer, but take each report with a pinch of salt).
My family and I have had too many experiences of ghosts etc for me not to believe in them. They don't scare me, but I do feel a little unsettled after an encounter. My parents house is home to at least 2 lingering spirits, a cat, and a young man. The cat is seen and felt all over the house, and both my parents and I saw it for years before telling each other about it (we were all afraid of not being believed!!). The young man stands by the big window in their living room. You cannot see him or the cat if you look directly at them, always just on the edge of your vision.
The man has been known to find things we have lost. Things we have searched for will turn up somewhere you have looked many times right after seeing him.
My dad was once chased by a big cat. He was riding his push bike on a wooded road and it was running alongside just inside the trees. He took one look at it and peddled for his life (rather understandably!). He describes it as panther sized, but mottled like an ocelot or spotted cat. There are many big cat sightings in this area, I once met a lady who watches a pair playing most evenings, but she won't take photos or report them as she is afraid they will be hunted.
I am still a bit afraid of the dark though. I'm not afraid of ghosts, or anything like that, but the 'nothingness' of the dark can frighten me on it's own sometimes. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
My cat sometimes comes running in from another room wtih a tail like a large brush and a crazy scared look in her eyes! She runs under the sofa. . I'm convinced our gorgeous male cat who passed away 4 years ago sometimes makes an appearance to her, he was very protective of my OH and the current cat loves my OH too .. so perhaps there's a bit of territorial'ness going on!...
.....
or maybe OH has just let one rip, I would run from the room, hair on end and hide under a couch too, especially after a night on Guinness ;-)0 -
I don't believe in ghosts etc. I am not scared of the dark either, although I occasionally feel a bit jumpy if I have just watched a really creepy horror film.
I once rented a holiday cottage that was on the edge of a graveyard and absolutely loved it as it was so peaceful. There was even a headstone a few feet from the back door!
Im in the process of reading through and this resonated with me. When I was 13 we went on holiday to cornwall and stayed in a cottage on the edge of a churchyard. That was my first experience of feeling and seeing paranormal activity and I found it very upsetting as I really did not understand what was happening. My father also sensed something but did not say anything as he didnt want to upset me further - he only admitted it on the way home and then went onto say that the cottahe had been a morgue :eek::eek:
Anyway - yes I do believe as I have had quite a few encounters and many as a midwife at home births. I have only been truly spooked once and that was more that it was a difficult birth and there was a definite presence that was upsetting the woman. Im not afraid of the dark but do fall over in the dark as I have very poor balance and visual preference so have to have the lights on at night!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I didn't read many of the replies because they were starting to scare me haha.
I'm 21 and I've only just grown out of my fear of E.T! I absolutely hate the dark and still sleep with the light on. I am most scared of ghosts/aliens because I believe they could exist. (i have never seen a ghost though and never want to). Just remembered we used to have a ghost cat in our house which all my family have seen, totally forgot about it til now and haven't seen it in a while.
I am fine when I am not on my own, even when I am looking after my baby siblings I feel safer than being on my own, which is weird because if anything was to happen I have to protect them.
I also have an over active imagination, probably because of all the horror films I have watched. For example when I am in the bathroom and look away then back into the mirror I expect to see something behind me or when I am driving I sometimes imagine "things" running across the road in front of me and a few times I thought I saw a dead body at the side of the road (it wasn't). I also hear things a lot more when I'm on my own.
EDIT - decided to read all the posts, even though I find it scary it is also really interesting.
There have been big cat sightings near me, never seen one myself. I think they are from when people used to have them as pets but set them free.
What does the banshee sound like?0 -

I don't think you'll be alone with these two! there will be loads of people who think this!!0 -
I don't believe and I'm not scared, my house is about 250 years old, I live here alone I switch off all the lights at night. However, when I was younger I read Stephen King's IT and had to get my bf to wait outside the bathroom door when I was in there in case IT came up the drains and got me.Whatever0
