Just popped in to say hello. I am not ready for my SOA yet and like you am exploring all avenues before /if I reveal all. I have had to start with a serious declutter of the home and an enormous amount of paper work to deal with - shred, burn, file, recycle. Have to say when I saw your debt figure I winced - 'wow thats eye watering' as my first reaction - followed by more eye wincing with your tales of stitches............ hope that is all better now :)
Good tip by Sunflower to keep the mortgage as a good debt. I have kept ours out of the total and we only have 3 yrs to go on that :):)

    I buy my B*den on Eb*Y - just a thought..........

Have you ever tired doing your food shopping on line? I find we spend about 25% less when we do it that way which offsets the delivery charge nicely and of course its carried to the door and straight into kitchen if you want :T

I will be subscribing to the diary - long may you continue to be 'upbeat and aspirational' - I have a feeling you will be very succesful

  • Hi Mr B Another Matrixer popping by. Love your diary. You didn't mention any of the cashback sites when talking about your Insurance and I won't buy anything unless I see whether I can get money back for it. My family thought I was insane but are coming round and I also have a purse full of vouchers just in case we pop into those shops and am very popular now when I produce them lol.

I am just about to write a Slimming World mealplan for the week, my not overweight OH loves their chilli and curry so its good new all round.
I will follow your diary - love the attitude:T

Morning, I just wondered where everybody gets all of these vouchers from (sorry its one area I havent looked into). Secondly Firewalker talks on her diary about negative wealth rather than debts. She has a blog and there is a calculator on there that helps you to work out your negative wealth and your positive wealth by looking at the assets that you have. She is doing really well on her debt free journey too and I guess it is the spin that you put on it. Since reading about negative wealth/positive wealth I have reassessed mine and feel like I can take on the world now as the positive wealth was lost in the fog if you see what I mean.

  • Just do a search for supermarket vouchers or resturaunt vouchers or whatever - you would be amazed at what comes up

Vouchers: our Tesco ones are at the bottom of the receipt - last time it was 13 off of 90, yesterdays shop offers 5 off of 50. Co-op ones are from signing up to their reward card.

Stood on the scales of shame this morning after a particularly liquid night and found I'd porked up by 2lb, so promptly went and mowed the lawn and reweighed myself to find I'd gone up even more. It's just going to be one of those days - Mrs B has also added another level of temptation today by cooking shedloads of cookies which are rather nice. Going to take the family for a nice long walk around the neighbourhood later and gawp at everyone's driveways and extensions whilst my daughter will ask really loudly if a witch lives there if she sees a particularly rundown house.

Mmmmm..... the scales of shame might not be *absolutely* accurate, then, if you've gone *up* after mowing the lawn :D unless you drank lots of water while you did it. Water weighs a lot, y'know :p

Like the others are saying, you have a great style, and I'm loving it! But don't be afraid to break out of that and be down when it feels bad, we all get that sometimes ....

Don't weigh yourself too often Mr B ... Weight fluctuates during the day. Weigh yourself once a week max, at the same time each week. That way you should see progress. And remember, losing weight is very simple when it comes down to it - eat fewer calories than you use. So mowing the lawn and going for a walk are great - but it does take your body time to process the fat.

If you need to mow the lawn more frequently to get regular exercise, then lift the mower blades up so you're not cutting it so short :) I can also thoroughly recommend using a pedometer to help you see how much you are exercising and how much you are increasing the exercise by. And a food diary to show how much you are consuming (you need to start by understanding portion sizes and weighing your food... Most people underestimate portion sizes for veg and overestimate them for everything else!). And remember, while you're exercising, you can't eat or spend money....

Love your attitude to life and will be following your progress:T

I would recommend getting onto the oldstyle boards and meal planning. You will save so much money.

    Look forward to your updates.

*Wanders in and looks round* H'mmm lots of familiar faces here. I like it!

In all seriousness, I like your attitude. As KC (aka KarmaCat) says, don't be afraid to vent your feelings on here. It makes a lot of difference to be able to let go in a way you can't in the real world where you are 'putting on' a positive face.

We are a varied bunch over on Matrix thread. I'm not actually in debt now so am really an interloper  but I have been and, living in retirement on an income which has been eroded by the credit crunch - a curse on all bankers to the 7th generation.

    May their years be diminished.
May God turn their hearts. And if He doesn't turn their hearts, May he turn their ankles.

I'd better stop there ;) but you might like to see what an Archbishop of Glasgow said - here

    We'll get there. Together.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
