301k in debt and morbidly obese - things aren't great!

Nothing much moneysaving to add - just that the unlikely sequence of results happened and so I am happier than usual as the mighty Brighton sit astride the Championship looking down on Palace, Millwall, etc, etc.
Altho, the moneysaving is rubbing off, Mrs B just announced that she needs to find a Boden voucher before she buys her next dress. Small steps, but steps nonetheless.
Off to enjoy a bottle of red now (it was half price).2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)
2014: Goodbye Bloater, Hello Boater (DFW)
2015: Got here by luck, intending to stay by judgement (MFW)
2015: Back to DFW, but not back to Square One (DFW)0 -
£160 lighter after the shop but we did get probably three weeks worth instead of two. First time in years its just been myself and Mrs B at the supermarket - without the distraction of the kids I was adding up as we went along and it certainly made us resist temptation - although having survived for 39 years without buying rice wine vinegar I was somewhat surprised to learn that we needed it now. Managed to get 15 quid off through vouchers and a lot more saved by utilising the BOGOF offers.
Old habits do die hard though, and it was only the hailstones that prevented us going into the car dealers next door to the supermarket - we are both petrolheads and already know which car we want next, and they had a shiny new one in the colour we want just parked outside waiting for us....
I have to play a fine balancing act - keeping upbeat about the whole situation otherwise the household will plummet into gloom, but I have to exercise some restraint cos the situations (both weight and debt) are serious. So it's all about keeping the dreams and aspirations alive, but looking longterm to a debtfree future.
Off to catch the rest of Final Score - my boys can go top of the Championship if (a highly unlikely sequence of) results go our way....
Loving your dairy0 -
Welcome Mr B, love your rhetoric. Totally readable, will follow your diary if you dont mind. I may learn something here. Check out the old style board for ideas to cut your shoping bill further, you can feed a family of 4 over there for £100 a month, getting 5 a day, and recipes to back it up.
Good luck, loving it x0 -
Hello, MrB. Fabulous diary, and you've made a great start on money-saving (was the vasectomy part of that plan?!) and the weight loss (ditto). You will reach your goals for sure if you keep this up."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -

I would call that a huge step myself
MrB take a look at the Matrix thread............ if a group of positive people (mostly women) scare you then stay awaySome days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. :T:T:T:T:T:T:TMr B, if you want positivity and healthy eating a good laugh and a huge dose of reality from people who have been doing this for months, come along and have a look at The Matrix Re-Evolution. We are the most positive bunch of loonys, (realists) women, and the occasional man lol, on the Planet, if there is a problem. we bunch together and try to find the solution, if not we close ranks and protect each other, we advise, we laugh, we rant and rave (in other words we are real people in a virtual world) but !!!!!!, it works, and you are more than welcome along with y our dieay if you have time, try us and see, we are addictive lol.0 -
another hello and welcome, i'll subscribe as you've a refreshing attitude to this journey that we're on. keep at it you will get there.0

Hey MrB, someone on the Matrix thread said to check out your diary, so I did. And I'm glad I have done so.
First up you are funny. Secondly, are you American? Don't know why the thought crossed my mind, but I was reading your thread in an American accent in my head. Thirdly, perhaps it might be mentally easier for you to think of your debt as £78.8K bad debt as if you think of it as £301K bad debt, you might go a bit mad. (And a mortgage isn't a bad debt as long as you can keep meeting your repayments.) £78.8K is a lot more mangeable
Oh, and check out Hypno06's threads: that particular lady paid off over £120K of debt in 5 years and is a true Money Saving Marvel.
Looking forward to more of your thread. And get your proper SOA with interest rates and everything up, mister, so we can really get to town advising you on busting those debts!0 -
