I ache in places I haven't used in years. I have a sense of finality that is almost numbing. Yesterday witnessed a titanic battle of Man Vs Shed. From 7 til 7 I was outside - lugging, sifting, rearranging, painting, despairing but eventually winning. It's been a long time coming, a constant thorn in my side but I can say now that the shed is at least 75% tamed.

There is a collection of junk at the side of the house which will be taken to the tip today, there are 6 tubs of books and toys sitting on the patio with a blanket over them (we're not rural enough to have a tarpaulin) which are to be donated, the rocking horse has been put in the loft and sitting next to me in the family room are 3 tubs of ebayable stuff taking up the place where the cross-trainer had been shoved.

Cos the shed is now also a home gym - managed to fix the windows and paint the insides of it a very soothing pale blue and chucked some carpet down - cross trainer fits perfectly in there - room for a yoga mat too. All done on zero budget - I constructed partitions from old bits of wood and the paint was leftover from years ago.

Had my two littlies 'helping' me throughout the day, til my son got overcome by the paint fumes and had to go sleep for a couple of hours but he soon got back into the swing of things. It has also resulted in much of the garden being a soothing shade of blue as well - but I'll sort that out today.

The most important thing is that the kids and Mrs B now have a 'room' where they can use the cross-trainer, and I have a shed which has been virtually neutered. There are 8 tubs left in there and in time I can probably whittle it down to 4, but this is manageable.

So today I have to do a lot of tipping and donating, and will also use today as an opportunity to tidy up the side of the house once and for all - due to some geographical vortex thing whenever there are strong winds the entire neighbourhood's recycling bins (the little ones not the wheelie ones) end up in our driveway - this is not a problem for those that are labelled, I simply return them, but those unaccounted for end up at the side of our house. Mrs B questioned the other day whether it was necessary for us to have 13 bins.

So no running this morning as I am physically spent, and the other exercises will have to wait until this evening. Haven't sunk into a bottle of anything this week - I was sorely tempted halfway through yesterday's battle - when my crew had mutinied and were going loco with the paintbrushes and the Shed seemed to be laughing at me - to go all Captain Ahab and get the rum out but I resisted.

You've left 8 tubs in there? Overnight? In all that space? And unattended :eek::eek::eek:? Get out their quick and see what damage they've done :eek::eek::eek:

Seriously, what a mammoth achievement, well done :T

I am in awe of the shed sorting Mr B. One of the draw backs or rural living is the space to have sheds/outhouse of which ours total 7  For me the holidays begin tomorrow so for the next 2.5 weeks I will be clearing and sorting them - one we plan to demolish and another is having a roof repair.

If you are selling on Eb*y BTW from some date in May the first 20 items each month will be listed for free but after that each item will be 35p. Not sure what difference it will make. Think the 99p free listing option is disappearing.

In an effort to break the cycle of boom/bust, feast/famine, all/nothing that I tend to operate on - I am having a day off. I've been pushing myself way too hard on all angles and turning this holiday into some kind of endurance challenge. Waking up shattered is not part of the solution. And this is where I would usually skulk away for a while and then end up right back at square one. But not this time. One day away from the spreadsheets, the running, the decluttering etc will do me the power of good and I shall return Saturday with renewed vigour. I hope.
