I too think you should at least apply, you will forever have the dreaded 'what if?' if you don't.

I think you're right to be cautious Mr B. It's not necessarily about being seen as a money chaser, but being seen to lack commitment. If you change job too often people start to wonder whether you'll hang around long enough for them to recover the investment they have made in recruiting and training you. Or they might think that you've been encouraged to move on...

It's also a good idea to stay long enough to be able to show what you've achieved in a role. So can you find a way in your current role to do the things you would be doing if you worked in the place you admire? Can you talk to the leadership team about how your current workplace can adopt those values.

You might also want to think about whether there are any additional costs involved in a potential move (e.g. further/more expensive travel), and how much of that extra the tax man would be helping himself to ;)

Woke up this morning and just could not face doing any of the stuff that has been part of my routine. Is it a blip, a dip or a slump? Hopefully by reporting on here in this little grey confessional box I shall be suitably motivated to rectify matters by the end of the day. I'm all out of cheesy grins for the wedding photographer at the moment.

rename it a rest day. No sin,no shame.
So tomorrow you know you have rested and are ready to continue on track
  • Yes Sunday is a day of rest Mr B ..... put your feet up. :-)
  • I think it's a knock on effect of having done your punishing routine twice in 6 hours - that hardly counts as once a day does it! Better that your body makes you rest than makes you ill.

You haven't mentioned your weight for ages but you must be looking and weighing very different by now and I suppose carrying less weight around helps you to extend the distance and the speed of it but even olympic athletes have rest days, Mr B.

I worry, reading some of your entries that you don't have enough sleep

    Please take care

As always, thanks for the contributions. A combination of those, plus the fact that despite nine hours sleep on Sunday night I came very close to nodding off in a meeting on Monday afternoon has led to believe that the intensive schedule I have been following for the last month has been a bit mental. Managed 10 hours sleep last night and feel a whole lot better for it. Am going to have a rest week (from exercise and obsessive moneywatching - should be easy, all the bills are out, nothing is due to come in so there is no need for vigilence til the weekend). Doesn't mean I'm going to go and stuff my face full of wine and McMuffins, just catch up on a lot of lost sleep.

Mr B you've obviously been burning the candle (homemade, knitted from yogurt and unsold records ;)) at both ends and are probably mentally as well as physically exhausted. Actually, no probably about it :naughty:. Have a good rest and come back refreshed, ready to fight the good fight.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
