Well done on the run MrB BUT if you're not feeling well probably best to ease off until you're feeling tip top again xx
Glad your still sticking around here. I agree about the focus on one thing. I am trying to make better changes in my life and failing to implement them. Trying to change everything at once. So am focusing on one thing and leaving it at that for now.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Mr B,
Just adding to the huge amount of yay and go you posts.
Not sure why but somthing in your diary spaked something in my head to sit down and work out what we owe and how to tackle it. It's not horiffica dn we are by no means treading water but I could see it getting to be that way if we didn't take stock. So thank you for giving me the kick up the proverbial to make headway now before we get into problems.
Also, i frequent bluewater often, so you're local to me :j0 -
OK....time for me to say HI :hello: and to put my two pennorth into the mix......
When I discovered MSE, I was directed here by someone who I "met" on the weightwatchers forums. (see a theme here??!)
At the time, I felt completely out of control of all things foodwise, and my non-mortgage debt was one of the biggest on MSE. Not the biggest, but I owed more than you (and had a mortgage of similar proportions).
Over the years I have been here, I have managed to clear the debt, and am now starting to pay down my mortgage. At the same time, I went through various phases of all or nothing exercise (have run the London marathon a couple of times) and all or nothing healthy eating.
I am now at a size and weight that I am very happy with. I exercise *sometimes* and at other times I don't.
The key, for me, came with that element of "control". For example.... When I tried to "control" what I was eating in order to lose weight it became an unhealthy obsession, that just lead to "revenge eating" because I wasn't happy, which in turn lead to a feeling of guilt for not running and the weight went back on.
However, when I took the weekly shop in hand and took "control" of that....meal planning delicious food within a budget, I found that I was having the same desired results.....I didn't buy crap, because I couldn't afford it. I was telling my brain that I was exercising a healthy element of control, so it worked.....
By taking control of the money stuff (and boy was I tough with it) other stuff had to either come along for the ride, or be pushed to one side and left for another day. Much as I wanted to be in control of everything, it wasn't possible all at once, all the time, and to avoid the whole "I'm a failure" thing, I had to learn to let some of it go until another day.
4 years after joining MSE, I was posting about my debt free status....whilst feeling smug (not snug) in the first pair of size 10 jeans I had owned since I was about 11. And to cap it all, in April I ran the marathon 26 minutes quicker than I did 2 years ago......on about half the training. Simply because I didn't put too much pressure on myself to do any of it.
Stick with it - but don't try to be master of all things at once. It will happen. I am proof of that. Stay focused on one element....debtbusting for example, and over time, the others will fall in as you regain control over the overlapping elements.

Hypno, that is amazing!! If MSE has taught anything it's that anything is possible.
Hope you feel better Mr B and can soon get back to the running, you've encouraged me to do lots of extra walking this week0 -
the key is to stick around and keep posting......the great people of MSE, and especially DFW, are invaluable as support when the going gets tough, as much as they are in offering encouragement and :j when things are going well!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. More knackered this evening from clicking all them thanks buttons than anything else I think. Moneysaving wasn't helped by having to shove a ton of diesel into the Bloater Motors. Work was much better than before, mainly cos I was getting on what I do best and not sat in endless meetings and commitees and blah. Thankfully due to my rudeness I get invited to progressively less of them each year.
Can't believe in 2 weeks how much things have changed thanks to the wisdom and experience of you MSE'rs, am really looking forward to posting the stats once one month is up to see if a significant dent has been made in the debt and the fat. I know it's a long game but I can't help but ride every little wave cos it keeps me on my toes.
Just to answer one query before I go and invesigate why two police helicopters are hovering overhead and making the whole house shake - I am not an American. I've picked up a few phrases from t'other side of the pond cos I been married to a Canadian for a decade, and its her mothers Tylenol that she left behind after her last visit that I'm plundering to keep the glands at bay.
