  • Wow. Am truly humbled and thankful for the messages - readers will be glad to know that I did force myself out of bed and do another 3k rainlashed run at 4.30 this morning and came home to find myself weighing in at a rather pleasing 22stone 13. Not so pleasing was the sudden swelling of my glands but I'm hoping the double dose of tylenol I've just taken will ease the pain of the sudden fatneckness. Late for the school run so better go. Once again, thanks to all.

  • Good morning well done on the run hats off to you at 4.30am :-). Hope the school run was nice this weather is miserable :-) I've skimmed a few recent posts and agree maybe just focus on one area more and the other will follow suit, don't beat yourself up you are doing a great job sorting out negative wealth can sometimes be very draining and distressing and it automatically makes me want to reach for the sugar fixes these things happen and we are where we are ((hugs)) it doesn't always help the waistline and eventually ip be replacing that habit with a brisk walk but until then trying to do good is just as good because while we are trying we are still in the game :-) glad your sticking around keep positive :-)

  • Tylenol? Are you American, MrB?
  • Hope you have a better day at work today Mr B...I don't think this miserable weather helps with the motivation, and just for the record I think you're you're doing brilliantly :)

Am not sure whether I said this on your thread or not, but I think it would be fair to say that many people on here have been in debt and overweight. MOST of them found that to really do a good job of either of them, they had to focus on just ONE of them.

So maybe now is you and your families time to focus on the debt. Sure try and eat a healthier diet, do more exercise etc, but if the debt is bothering you more then that has to be your focus.

If on the other hand your weight is life threatening then maybe you need to focus on weight reduction, and try to make the debt reduction as self running as possible.

    Good luck

Chev is making a really good point here, MrB - none of us can do it all, all the time. My formerly wannabe-debt-free diary is now about getting my new house and garden in order (I work from home and I want to grow fruit and herbs) but even for that, I need to have a couple of weeks focussing on one, and a couple on the other. Its just the way the world is, with everything else we need to do.

Anyway, congratulations on getting out there this morning! And listen to your body - more sleep! More healing!

    Hello Mr B,

I am delighted to report that your charming scribblings meant that I forgot to hang up my laundry and completely lost track of the film I was watching last night as I disgested this whole thread! So, just wanted to say hello.

I'm still fairly new to all of this (and returning after a few months absence), and like some of the others have said it's very easy to try and do everything all at once at the beginning. I'm very far from being an expert, but after a few months I've now found myself committing to changing one thing per week e.g. spending an hour on a sunday morning sorting out my car insurance rather being overwhlemed by a huge list. That way changes seem to stick a bit better for me, rather than binging on being so frugal/good and then throwing in the towel and having a good old spend on amazon or whatever.....You'll find your own routine and what works for you.

Spreadsheets and no spend days do become a bit addictive mind you....

I hope you can treat recording your journey here like your running i.e. even when you don't feel like it, just even doing 5 minutes is 5 minutes closer to where you want to be. As a long time blogger, I'm always amazed at looking back at the year earlier's scribblings and seeing where I've got to and realising change has sneaked up after all. It's a way fantastic way of clearing your head and frustrations, creating some space to figure out what it is you actually want to do, and seeing progress in black and white. Even if you just skip one ad break to write a sentrence or two, your diary here will help keep you going.

Thank you for sharing your tales with us,

    V

At the start of this week I was recovering from a vasectomy, had the mother-in-law finishing her third week at my house, and weighed too much for the Wii Fit to measure me (ie, over 23stone 8).

Just a quote from early in your diary Mr B so you can see how far you have already come.

Glad to see you back after a bad day.
